Suggested changes
[edit]Great article Wiki Ian - very thorough! A few suggested changes:
In the infobox, the route diagrams are very busy - some questions:
- Do we need all three versions represented?
- Do the stations with passing loops need to be detailed as such? ("The diagrams aren't intended to show .. quantity of parallel tracks" [1])
- Are all the road crossings required?
- What do the grey circle icons vs the blue dot icons refer - I've tried looking at all the diagram info pages but can't work it out!
More generally:
- Page name - comma is usually for towns/geographic locations. Maybe "Riverline (Hobart)" instead?

Feedback appreciated
[edit]Hey Chuq, I do not believe we've made contact since I first joined Wikipedia.... I trust you've been well :-) Thank you very much for the feedback. This article would have to be one of the more labor intensive articles I've worked on - You'd laugh at me if you knew how many times I've proof read it. The frustrating part is, I have searched high and low for feedback and advice and received little. I will try to answer your questions as accurately as possible. If I miss something, please don't hesitate to bring it to my attention.
- Do we need all three versions represented?
I believe that all the proposals should be represented on the route map in some form until a final route is chosen. I had somewhat of a dilemma when creating the route map. The problem is I don't know how to create a route map with just one line representing the various proposals that would be clearly understood by readers foreign to Hobart. I have created what you suggested to the best of my ability. Please feel free to alter/suggest changes. The early draft is my ideal choice as it demonstrates the unique relationship between the Main Road, Brooker Highway and the Railway Line. Unfortunately, I have since discovered that such a route map goes against the set guidelines. In the new revision I have included the recently proposed, North Hobart spur line. I should make it known that I am unsatisfied with the revision in its current form and would appreciate any suggestions to improve it.

- Do the stations with passing loops need to be detailed as such
Quoting a sentence from the link you posted with this question (right above the contents):
“ | the number of lines (tracks) is not normally signified in the graphic, except for small areas such as station diagrams and individual light rail/tram lines. | ” |
Due to the intercity bike track not being altered (with the exception of behind Northgate), I thought demonstrating how trains will pass one another on a single track line was important enough to include on the route map? Am I going into to much detail or are there other ways people without map making skills can communicate the information accurately?
- Are all the road crossings required?
Probably not. When designing the current route map, I tried to make it as detailed as possible for people not familiar with Hobart. I'll let you be the judge of what works best.
- What do the grey circle icons vs. the blue dot icons refer
The most painstaking task I've undertaken within Wikimedia is scouring Commons for rail Pictograms - A very poorly organized over inflated part of this entire project. As you would have noticed the Legend represents only a fraction of the pictograms that exist within Commons. The stations on the existing map are all correctly marked - It is the Legend that it out of date. I even enlisted the help of railway enthusiasts create new pictograms specifically for this template. I found a newer version of the Legend (more an editor's guide) here, but it still doesn't show all the pictograms available. I agree in principle that the pictograms can cause confusion and are therefore probably unneeded. However, I'll list some of the pictograms used to see whether you think I'm removed them hastily. You might have wondered why the route map to the left had more grey colored stations than the other two? differences in Ben Johnston's proposal calling for bus malls at every station and a ferry terminal at Mawson place
-
Operating tram/light rail icon for route map (currently of no use to Riverline route map)
-
Light blue instead of dark to indicate the line is not open in its represented form
-
Twin platform station on single track line
-
Twin platform station connected with other transport (bus mall, taxi rank, train station etc) on single track line
-
Single platform station connected with other transport on single track line
- Page name
You're absolutely right. How would I fix this given the current article name would become redundant once the new article name is created?
- Conclusion
Please compare the revised route map to the current one and feel free to make alterations where needed or inform me of further revisions as they are needed. If you have or know anyone with map making skills, I could really make use of a map of Hobart and its northern suburbs with the 3 major transport corridors included on said map. thank you one again for the feedback.
