Sonnet
[edit]I have just added the Sonnet by Coleridge. Indentations are accurate, but someone may like to improve formatting.Tony in Devon 10:38, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
Assessment
[edit]Assessed as start and low importance for WP:WikiProject Rivers. Needs referencing, a map, a geobox as at Template:Geobox/type/river and could benefit from reorganising into structure as suggested at project page. Jezhotwells (talk) 18:59, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Better Language please ;-)
[edit]I would appreciate it if someone would be so kind to correct the following sentence:
There is no public access to the estuary itself but footpaths lead alongside with two viewing platforms on the west and two hides one on the west and one the east.
Thanks! --Gretarsson (talk) 20:41, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
- I presume it is the English grammar which you feel needs correcting, rather than the factual information? Either way the best thing is to edit the text yourself to make the improvements.— Rod talk 21:17, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
Requested move 1 July 2016

The result of the move request was: Moved to River Otter, Devon, as it is 1) the best disambiguator 2) comma convention seems to be consistently applied to English rivers (River Rye, Yorkshire; River Leven, Cumbria). No such user (talk) 14:20, 11 July 2016 (UTC)
River Otter → River Otter (England) – I don't believe that this river is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC of the term "River Otter", compared to the various otters known by this term. It receives only a small fraction of page views of the ambiguous articles, and in fact less than every individual otter species.[1] The dab page River otter receives a comparable number of page views to the river, suggesting a significant portion of readers are being misdirected. I don't think that the capitalization of "River Otter" is sufficient for disambiguation, as the phrase is often capitalized when talking about the animals. "River Otter" should redirect to the dab page.Cúchullain t/c 15:55, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
- I am fine with your proposal for the reasons you give but the title should be River Otter (river) rather than River Otter (England). "England" does not disambiguate a river from an otter that lives in England. The river needs to be disambiguated from animals, not other rivers. — AjaxSmack 01:57, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- I'm open to other alternatives for disambiguation. My first thought was (Devon), but the river also runs in Somerset. (river) should work.Cúchullain t/c 02:37, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- Otter (the river) or River Otter (the river) may be less ambiguouus. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:05, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- My initial thought was that River Otter (river) would be best as this would distinguish it from the various species, but then I found the dab page Otter River which complicates matters, particularly in the light of discussions about alternative ways to name rivers. Although it rises in Somerset it primarily flows through Devon so I would be happy with River Otter (Devon).— Rod talk 10:32, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- Although not free of possible confusion, Rod's suggestion of River Otter (Devon) would be OK by me. —SMALLJIM 15:01, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- As a note, I don't think there's much risk of confusion with the Otter Rivers; at least in the U.S. these wouldn't be called the "River Otter", so long as there are appropriate hat notes. As such I don't personally have a problem with River Otter (river) (Otter (river), however, would be ambiguous as it could apply to all of them). I also don't mind River Otter (Devon) if others are cool with it.--Cúchullain t/c 15:42, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
- Support Rod’s good suggestion, an alternative would be River Otter, Devon (per River Mole, Devon, but I am not wanting or trying to open up the whole commas vs brackets debate again, it is just a further option)...Jokulhlaup (talk) 17:16, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
