Draft of 45 feet...

The article currently says the vessel has a draft of 45 feet (14 m). The Seaway's locks depth is, IIRC, 28 feet.

There used to be some smaller Lakers, which were smaller than Seawaymax, which were used it smaller, shallower, or more twisty harbours. Presumably this class is intended to replace some of those older vessels. So, surely it would have a shallower draft? Is it possible her draft was only 14 feet, but we stated it was 14 meters? I got the dimensions as "639’x78’x45′" from here. I suspect the answer is that as a US-flagged ship she is intended to sail only between US ports and would have no reason to sail through the Seaway; thus the deeper loaded draft. The Wicked Twisted Road (talk) 20:56, 31 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
