Reference
[edit]The reference to the Roman Road at Blackstone Edge is no longer reliable. See http://www.archaeologyuk.org/ba/ba120/feat1.shtml in the last paragraph. Original reference awaited from GMAU. AndrewTeal (talk 15:02, 11 May 2016 (UTC)
- The reference to the doubt about the Roman Road is quoted in the page Blackstone Edge. There seems scant evidence for the existence of a Roman settlement in the village, eg http://www.archiuk.com/cgi-bin/web-archi.pl?PlacenameFromPlacenameFinder=Ripponden&CountyFromPlacenameFinder=West%20Yorkshire&distance=10000&ARCHIFormNGRLetter=SE&ARCHIFormNGR_x=03&ARCHIFormNGR_y=19&info2search4=placename_search holds no evidence other than a few coins at some distance. Looking for references to Neolithic settlements or burial sites on Rishworth Moor (not Ripponden) ... the link to AONB demonstrates no such designation; The phrase "home to many rare animals, can be found the 'Cat Stones', a series of ancient round barrow burial sites" can be found on many pages, eg https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC1QPW6_cat-stones?guid=4aa190ce-b3e0-4d1b-983c-0495fd47cbf4, which page claims it quotes a Wikipedia page on Cat Stones which no longer exists. Rishworth is in ripponden as much as I dislike the fact people get confused between ripponden and Rishworth as they are two separate villages they both fall into the ripponden civil parish therefore these neolithic sites are in the ripponden civil parish Hĭ uông lìng (talk) 16:19, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
