[edit]Airlines of Killeen, TX The first operating airline of Killeen, TX was Hood Airline, established by Michael A. Broom. This airline began service about 1964 and operated several rounds trips each day to Dallas Love Field. In 1967 another airline commenced operation out of Killeen, DAL Airlines which was owned and operated by Jack and Henery Seal of Dallas, TX. This airline was purchased by Ted C. Connell of Killen during that year. Hood Airlines went into chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1968 and was purchased by Ted C. Connell. Mr. Connell merged DAL and Hood Airlines and operated as Hood Airlines until 1971. Mr. Connell and some business associates started another airline in Corpus Christi, TX and named it Rio Airways. This airline operated for two years in the valley of Texas. It was not a profitable venture and Mr. Connell purchased all of the stock and moved it to Killeen, TX. He merged Hood and Rio Airways together and elected to stay with the name of Rio Airways. Rio Airways suspended operations in 1987.
