Needs a clean-up
[edit]This thing reads like it was written by a fan. There's too much "biography" and to little history about the character. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.108.243.218 (talk) 23:31, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
- It's quite informative, though.Nightvisiongoggles (talk) 18:00, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Moving article from Rirakkuma to Rilakkuma
[edit]- Support. I didn't realize that Rilakkuma was the more official and more common name for this character when I made the page; however, a quick Google search and a browse around the San-X website confirms it. Kamezuki 20:33, 16 October 2005 (UTC)
- Moved. --mikemorr 01:05, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
What about in the book and game titles?
[edit]I changed the spelling in the article, but left the book and game titles alone -- not sure if they should be changed or not. --mikemorr 01:23, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
And then...?
[edit]His story serves as a tragic morality tale for Japanese children. He is a brown bear who lives in the house of an office lady (OL) named Kaoru. Rilakkuma has been increasing in popularity since his debut in 2003.
- So... what is his story, and how is it a tragic morality tale? Is it teaching children the abject misery that waits for them if they grow up to live with office ladies, or what untold misfortune will surely come to them if they themselves should increase in popularity? - Tenmiles 04:31, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Actually that line is a remnant of vandalism: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Rilakkuma&diff=144280784&oldid=132770556 --Lareine 10:47, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- This is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard. There is almost no back story to Rilakkuma, and it surely doesn't include anything listed in the vandalized section you posted. There is nothing related to a "tragic morality tale" in any Rilakkuma stories, books, or games. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dfxdeimos (talk • contribs) 05:17, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- Or maybe that being 'relaxed' is against the norms of the eternally busy Japanese-child-on-the-way-to-becoming-a-salaryman... That was pretty morbid for a well-loved cute character though, that vandalized post. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nightvisiongoggles (talk • contribs) 04:22, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
Man in a Bear Suit
[edit]I shit you not. We can talk about it here, though, if you guys would like. ~~
- How come there isn't a reference for that? Lady Galaxy 00:09, 24 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's in Rilakkuma's character profile in...I think the first book. He is a kigurumi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 222.11.200.90 (talk) 16:11, 30 June 2008 (UTC)
- I highly doubt that. Other people would have mentioned it by now. I've known this bear for awhile now. Perhaps it was lost in translation? Very few people can actually read Japanese. Lady Galaxy 21:24, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know why people keep adding that he is a man in a bear costume. How can Rilakkuma be a human in a bear costume when the story goes that he was a toy in an office lady's office that turned real (along with the chick and other bear)? I don't get it. I also don't know why this page keeps becoming vandalized with that tidbit... Lady Galaxy 20:39, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- Lady Galaxy is correct in this case. He isn't a MAN in a bear costume at all - he's a BEAR in a bear costume. Doesn't everyone know this?! Rilakkumaworld (talk) 02:12, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, he is a BEAR in a BEAR costume as indicated by the fact that many times he has his bear suits out drying on the clothes line but they all lack heads, indicating that it is his realy head sticking through his costume. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dfxdeimos (talk • contribs) 20:18, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Is Rilakkuma a promotion of less stressful life?
[edit]I agree Rilakkuma is a reflection of Japanese society but it is not a promotion (who have benefit to promote it?). The source is needed. Please see a sentence I added, how Rilakkuma was created with a source of the interview to the creater (Aki Kondo). It was originally just a personal wish, then Japanese people felt sympathy by which Rilakkuma got popularity. I appreciate if anyone correct my broken English. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 133.11.42.159 (talk) 09:40, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Finnish?
[edit]Besides being a combination of relax and bear, the name is clearly made to look like Finnish. Can anyone find a source for that? Yel D'ohan (talk) 23:15, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Do you have a source for that? Please see Wikipedia:No original research. Since JP uses pictograms for their writing system, I think the name is just a romanization of those characters. ToriJana (talk) 03:55, 8 June 2016 (UTC)
- I can't find anything about this online so it's probably a coincidence. I'm guessing it's got something to do with the double ks, which I'm not even sure is in finnish.--Prisencolin (talk) 23:21, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

Rilakkuma and Kaoru
[edit]I read this article following the release of the new animated series on Netflix. It looks muddled as we're talking about the animated series in one part and then go to describing the fictional character in another part and then we go back to describing the animated series. Splitting the animated series and the fictional character would improve the flow of both articles. FunksBrother (talk) 15:59, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- @FunksBrother: I started one at Rilakkuma and Kaoru. lullabying (talk) 16:39, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Lullabying: Great! I'll see what text I can move over to the new article or eliminate. FunksBrother (talk) 19:10, 22 April 2019 (UTC)
