Rick Jones Dead?

[edit]

Is it Rick Jones or the Sentry being transported away in an ambulance at the end of World War Hulk 5? Id rather say its the Sentry as blond hair is shown?! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.61.157.73 (talk) 11:01, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Expanded article

[edit]

Really trying to fill out this article with a little more "meat". Unfortunately, I am very much relying on my memory for the moment as I am creating this... If anyone thinks I may have made a mistake, but you aren't sure enough to edit it out, please post it here: I have a huge collection of back issues featuring Rick Jones, and I can pull out the specific issue to double-check any specific facts.

Rick Jones certainly has quite a history in Marvel, so I think he deserves quite a page. That said, I'm going to continue to post and additional relevant information as I run across it. Time permitting, I'll go back through some of my back issues for more fact-checking and additional notes. --Roger McCoy 11:15, 21 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Wouldn't it be wise to mention the imposter/looney Rick Jones who appeared in Alias? admvenom

Milhous or Milhouse?

[edit]

Edited the full name from Richard Milhous "Rick" Jones to Richard Milhouse "Rick" Jones. I believe that is the correct spelling for the character's name. Bengt 12:18, 24 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gamma Bombs?

[edit]

It's briefly mentioned in the article that Banner, the Grey Hulk, and Rick were looking for Gamma bombs, but that's it. It seems like something fairly important to be mentioned so quickly. If anyone knows any more details please fill it in!--Torourkeus 02:53, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's an interesting story, but not really important to Rick's history in and of itself. You can read about it in the trade paperback The Incredible Hulk: Ground Zero. If any page goes into this, it should really be The Leader's. --Roger McCoy 08:00, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rick's Superpowers

[edit]

What were Rick's superpowers and when did he lose them and why?--Torourkeus 02:53, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rick doesn't have any powers per se, but he has been able to access the Destiny Force, which is accessible by all humans. Rick was able to use this to pull heroes out of his imagination, and this became the crucial factor in the conclusion of the Kree-Skrull War. This really deserves some more space, and maybe even it's own article. Maybe I'll get around to expanding this one day... In the meantime, check out The Avengers: The Kree-Skrull War TPB or the appropriate Essential Avengers -- I think Vol. 4 is the one. --Roger McCoy 08:04, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rick and Death

[edit]

All it says about Rick being brought back to life is that he and half of the universe were brought back to life during 'ensuing events' what events were those? Also, the last paragraph of the death section brings up a lot without a lot of explaination or background. This last paragraph gave me a lot of questions:

  • What were Rick's health problems?
  • Why was the Supreme Intelligence captive, and by who?
  • How did that mark "the beginning of the Destiny War?"
  • I think most importantly, how was rick joined with Genis-Vell?

More questions about Rick and Death come up later in the Genis-Vell section of the article. How was it that Thanos attempted to separate Death and Marlo, and how did it result in Rick getting aged and without an arm?--Torourkeus 02:53, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some of this could probably use expansion, but I'm much too tired to do it right now... Maybe someday.
In the meantime, here's what I can remember:
  • All it says about Rick being brought back to life is that he and half of the universe were brought back to life during 'ensuing events' what events were those?
Can't remember. Till I can, check out the Infinity Gauntlet TPB. The The Infinity Gauntlet (series) article would probably be a better place to go into this though, and a link should be added from here once that article is expanded.
  • What were Rick's health problems?
As mentioned in a preceding paragraph, "Rick was crippled by the Hulk". Specifically, he was confined to a wheelchair.
Follow the link in your comment to Destiny War for the answer to this.
  • I think most importantly, how was rick joined with Genis-Vell?
I'll have to dig out the Avengers Forever TPB one of these days and give you a better answer, but as I recall his older self somehow joined them to heal Rick's injuries sustained in the Destiny War. I don't think much is given in the way of details as to how he did this if that's what your looking for.
There's definitely some room for expansion here based on your questions. Maybe one of these days I'll get around to re-reading my quoted sources and expanding these out. Till then, hope this gets you started. --Roger McCoy 08:17, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At the end of the Genis section, it says that Rick gets an awareness that the Captain Marvel comic series was ending. Was this literal? Did Rick break the fourth wall? In the "Other notes" section this is brought up again, and if possible I'm curious what plot points he wanted ended.--Torourkeus 02:53, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This was literal, although it was done more for the sake of humor and expediency than anything else, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. Plot points resolved included the separation of Rick and Captain Marvel (as mentioned in the article) and explaining away Marlo's lesbian relationship with Moondragon as subconscious influence by a villain. I believe most of the other points resolved involved issues that weren't terribly important. Since the problems they solved were not probably mentioned in this article in the first place, going into detail about their resolutions would probably only generate more confusion. Again, I may have to go back and re-read this to confirm it. Till then, check out Captain Marvel Volume 4: Odyssey. --Roger McCoy 08:25, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Moondragon only lied about Marlo's relationship being an influence to let her go. --Emilblonsky (talk) 15:25, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

General Desc

[edit]

You guys sure this is necessary: Rick Jones' career might be summed up in one word: "super-groupie". ? It's funny, but it just doesn't look right to have it on the article... What you say? Kajito 22:47, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nixon

[edit]

I deleted the line "It is presumed that he was named after Richard Milhaus Nixon" because it is both unreferenced and makes no sense. Rick first appeared in May of 1962, and he was a teen-ager with his own car, making him at least 16. That means he was born before May of 1946, months before Nixon got his first public office as a California Congressman. Rick was a local to the testing grounds in Nevada (or New Mexico?); why would he be named after Nixon? His parents (or the staff of the orphanage where he was raised) would probably never have heard of this California lawyer. As to Stan Lee, he was more likely to have been thinking of Rick Nelson from the Ozzie & Harriet show, a famous clean-cut teenager who even looks a bit like Jones. Rosencomet 20:40, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Where, in fact, does the middle name "Milhaus" come from? It's not on the Marvel database or official Marvel website. Rosencomet 20:54, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article is the first time I've seen "Milhaus" as his middle name (or any middle name given for the character). As for the presumption that Rick was too young to have been named after Nixon....you do realize that, with Marvel characters (well, many comics characters, but let's stick with Marvel) not aging to a significant degree, Rick Jones is now too young to have been born in the '40s? Pardon my poking holes in your argument, but with Rick being somewhere in his late twenties, maybe early thirties at most, he would have been born no earlier than the mid-'70s to early '80s. With that in mind, if there is any published proof to back up "Milhaus", it's quite possible he was named after Nixon. - Pennyforth 22:24, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That would, of course, depend on when the notion of his having been named Milhaus, or being named after Nixon, first appeared. If this is a reference from the original character before the retroactive updating of ages and such began, it's extremely unlikely that he would be named after Nixon. As time goes on, it will again be unlikely, since his parents would hardly name him after the most discredited President in American history; although if history can be re-written, why not motivations? Wait a few years, and he could be named after the Simpsons' character (though why his folks would saddle him with the name of a character depicted as a major loser would be beyond me; I guess that goes for Nixon as well :-)). Obviously, it couldn't have been Stan Lee's idea, unless he added it to Rick's history quite a bit later than the character's creation. (Unfortunately, Stan the Man's age increases at a normal rate.)
Anyway, I'm with you: where does this middle name come from in the first place? It sounds like the kind of joke you might expect to originate during the Genis years.Rosencomet 18:14, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's from the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe, either the original or deluxe edition. I know it's in my Gamer's Handbook to the Marvel Universe RPG supplement. I'll get back to you when I have access to those books later today. /The Gaunt Man 13:28, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Well, turns out it wasn't in my GHMU; he's only called Richard M. "Rick" Jones in that one. Same with OHOTMU Deluxe and Master Editions. However, in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Hulk 2004 book, his real name is given as Richard Milhouse "Rick" Jones, meaning that it might well have been stated in Peter David's Captain Marvel comics as a joke, but now it's official, for what it's worth. Fair use rationale for Image:Hulk Ep 14.jpg

[edit]

Image:Hulk Ep 14.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Rick's Dare

[edit]

As detailed in #4 of the most recent She-Hulk series (I can't find the volume number) we finally have in-canon details to the goober who dared Rick to go out onto the test-site in the first place. Noteable? Lots42 (talk) 07:11, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Red Hulk redirect

[edit]

Uh, why is the Red Hulk page being redirected here? As of the latest issue, it's obvious that he is NOT the Red Hulk, and until an answer is given, I propose the redirect be change to Hulk (comics). King Zeal (talk) 14:24, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The redirect makes NO sense at all. Nezu Chiza (talk) 01:59, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A-Bomb redirect

[edit]

What the heck? The character has been known as "Rick Jones" for years. What is the justification for redirecting the page to "A-Bomb", considering that he's only used the name ONCE so far? As per Dick Grayson, I recommend changing it back. King Zeal (talk) 15:39, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's at Dick Grayson because there are multiple Nightwings and Robins. There is only one A-Bomb. And he will be using the name more in the future; the A-Bomb fights the Red Hulk in #3. --Emilblonsky (talk) 15:42, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. We're not supposed to make edits based on what happens in the future. Though it's true that there is only one "A-Bomb", that is NOT the identity that the character is most known as. Another example would be Stephanie Brown, who is the only person to use the name "Spoiler". King Zeal (talk) 15:45, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't just copy and paste the article; it destroys the article's history.
And Stephanie Brown should be at Spoiler; that article is wrong. --Emilblonsky (talk) 15:47, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So you're going to decide that, despite whatever previous editors conceded to? King Zeal (talk) 15:48, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's wrong, but I don't like her so I'll leave it alone. --Emilblonsky (talk) 15:49, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not about what you like and don't like. To avoid an edit war, I'm going to leave the pages as is. However, this format is NOT ideal. King Zeal (talk) 15:51, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to have to agree that this page should be moved back to Rick Jones (comics), as that is the character's traditional name for 10+ years. It's the same reason we haven't moved Bucky to Winter Soldier - or to Captain America for that matter. BOZ (talk) 17:23, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Even though i agree with you, thats WP:Pokémon test. But He is doing WP:Crystal Ball and ignoring WP: Consensus. Rau's talk 22:46, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The page needs to be Moved back, to preserve the edit history. 204.153.84.10 (talk) 23:01, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There is a clear naming convention. The character has over a 40 year history as Rick Jones, and a WikiComics editors, it is our responsibilty to preserve the characters not as they currently are, but as they appear in throught the context of their publication history. I think this edit is a reflection of some great enthusiam for a great creative turn in for the character; however, there is clear editorial precidence, consensus and guidelines, moving against such an edit. As such, I have moved the page back. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 02:53, 9 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]
Actually, it needs the page move function, which may require an admin, so that the article's edit history gets moved back where it belongs. A simple copy/paste won't fix that. 207.229.140.148 (talk) 03:08, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I performed a user move which moved the edit history. -66.109.248.114 (talk) 03:36, 9 March 2008 (UTC).[reply]
The Main Page's history was not moved. That needs to be restored. For that we need an admin. Rau's talk 03:55, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I said that would happen, but did anybody listen to me?--Emilblonsky (talk) 00:09, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well if you hadn't moved it in the first place, and had taken it to the talk page like you are supposed to, it would not have happened. And once a consensus is reached i will put in a request for admin help. Rau's talk 02:13, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I asked an administrator for help, and they cleared up the history, now we just need to establish consensus, which to me looks like its on the side of leaving it as is. Rau's talk 10:26, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal

[edit]

The Thanatos article is in bad shape, and I'm not sure he's notable enough to warrent his own page. The other Thanatos on that page doesn't seem too notable, either. Argento Surfer (talk) 21:23, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Olympian Thanatos made his comic debut during the Dark Reign storyline when it came to the fight against Hera. That's my objection there. Rtkat3 (talk) 10:20, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I could merge that section into List of minor Marvel Comics characters#T under Thanatos (Olympian). Argento Surfer (talk) 14:10, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Either that or move whatever information on the Olympian Thanatos to the page that you had red-linked in this section. Not all of the known Olympians listed on their Wikipedia pages have their pages made or have been modified with recent appearances yet. Rtkat3 (talk) 3:43, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Merger done. Argento Surfer (talk) 15:59, 16 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
