Notability
[edit]I'm not seeing coverage that adds up to WP:GNG. We should consider merging this article to either Best and fairest or Richmond Football Club. signed, Rosguill talk 23:55, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
- Rosguill, see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian rules football#AFL Women's club best and fairest articles – if these kinds of discussions are going to come up, we want to try and cover them all, rather than just one. Here are three sources that I could find for this one:
- My take is that we have to start somewhere, but you might tell me to take that opinion and stick it, I don't know. 4TheWynne (talk • contribs) 02:44, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- 4TheWynne, I think that the information in this article should be included somewhere, I'm just not convinced that a separate article is appropriate. You should recognize that articles published by Richmond FC or the AFL don't count toward establishing the subject's notability because they aren't independent of the subject, although the coverage in the Advertiser is a good start.
- I'm skeptical of the idea that a club-level award is inherently notable––while I've come across mentions of best and fairest wins in biographies of Australian women's football players, I honestly couldn't name another club-level award of general public interest despite having casually followed sports my whole life. If notability can't be demonstrated, it would be a better idea to summarize awards together (or in the context of their respective teams), rather than having a constellation of stubs with little hope of expansion. signed, Rosguill talk 04:36, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- You should bring this up at the above discussion – given I (and I'm sure everyone else interested) would prefer a consensus to apply to all of the articles rather than just one or two (as is currently the case), this discussion should continue there. I'll pull you up on "little hope of expansion", as the competition is growing and so too will the coverage of awards like these (like we've seen with the league best and fairest, All-Australian team, etc.). I also don't think it's entirely fair to compare with other sports, especially from other countries (if that's what you were referring to), when it comes to general public interest in the highest honour at a club behind its hall of fame. 4TheWynne (talk • contribs) 05:26, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not really trying to compare it with other sports. You're asking for the presumption that an entire category of subjects is automatically notable, and I'm skeptical as I have yet to run into even one example of something from this category being notable. You may very well be right, I'd like to see at least some evidence before I endorse your suggestion. signed, Rosguill talk 06:01, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
