Richler → Richler (disambiguation) – Mordecai Richler is WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for Richler. Sharper {talk} 15:09, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
- Comment For this and the other nominations you've made for surname WP:PRIMARYREDIRECTs, it would be helpful if you would provide some evidence that these people are commonly referred to by RS using just their surname (and not merely when shortening repeated references after the full name has already been used in the text). I'm inclined to oppose all of these in the absence of such evidence. i.e. even if Frank Flangerfog gets more views than all other people with that surname, that alone is not sufficient reason to primary redirect "Flangerfog" to his article. - Thanks for the comment. Three points of proof for this particular nomination: firstly, pageview analysis shows that Mordecai consistently gets more views than all of the other Richlers listed on the dab page combined (except for one instance in January 2018 when Nancy Richler died). Dictionary.com and Merriam-Webster both have the author as the sole definition in their entries for "Richler". Finally, every other listed Richler is related to Mordecai, and ultimately probably derive some or most of their notability from that initial connection. Sharper {talk} 23:40, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response, but I still think what really matters is whether he's referred to by just his surname in actual writing in reliable sources. A dictionary entry is a start - it suggests there's some promise to a ptopic, but I don't think it's enough. I tried searching a few other surnames on Merriam Webster and found the following resolved to an entry on a person, but do not have ptopics on Wikipedia: Bouchard, Wilde, Pelosi, Polk (sadly, Napoleon of the Stump doesn't even merit a mention on that dab page!). I suspect their threshold for having a dictionary entry is significantly lower than our WP:PTOPIC criteria. (Though actually I'd give an RM to make Wilde a primary redirect even odds of succeeding.) - Oppose surname In ictu oculi (talk) 08:21, 2 November 2019 (UTC)
- Comment. The article would need to be moved to Richler (surname) since it is a set index article and not a dab page. PC78 (talk) 12:53, 3 November 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. No clear primary topic here. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:31, 6 November 2019 (UTC)
