Good article on hold
[edit]There are a couple of points before I can pass this for GA.
- "acquitted 100s" doesn't convey anything to someone unfamiliar with the time. Can you add some explanation here?
- I doubt if Southchurch would warrant an article without the incendiary cocks. I also think the lead is a little short. Can you kill two birds with one stone here, and add a short sentence about the ruse to the lead?
- I think another sentence or two of context would be good at the start of the "Involvement in Baron's War" section. The article already explains why Southchurch is levying requisitions, so just an additional clause saying something like "The Second Baron's War, which began in 1264, was a civil war between a group of barons and royalist forces. In April 1267, Gilbert de Clare . . ."
That's all it needs. One more suggestion, not necessary for GA: an image would be great, if you can find one. If not, a map showing the locations named in the article (Southchurch, Stratford, Prittlewell, Canterbury, London, etc.) might be worth adding.
Nice article and an interesting read. I'll watch this page, but feel free to post a note to me on my talk page if you want, as well. Mike Christie (talk) 02:15, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit]This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force. I believe the article still meets the Good article criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. The article history has been updated to reflect this review.
For future reference, I only made one small change as I was reviewing: it is not recommended to use the {{cquote}} template for quotations in articles (it is intended for callouts); the preference is for blockquote markup instead (policy here).
