Myostatin claims
[edit]Where is the evidence for the claim that he has a defective myostatin gene ? It doesn't even make sense as organisms with a defect in this gene have an large degree of muscle mass even when there is no environmental cue. This means he should have always been, and always continue to be quite muscular, which was not the case - at one point he was quite out of shape.
Ok folks, here's the lowdown on abs: the shape of your abs is genetically predetermined. You can't work to get an 8 pack, or a 6 pack, or a ten pack; basic anatomy will tell you that. the Rectus Abdominus is one sheet of muscle that is essentially "ribbed", which creats the abs that you see on a lean person. To suggest that the number of abs visible on someone has anything to do with training or steroid use is ridiculous. You can build up the rectus abdominus like any other muscle, to make the abs "pop" more and make them stronger, as well as building up the ancillary muscles such as obliques and serratus, but that's it. Eight time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman only has a 5-pack, and he always has, and he is arguably the greatest bodybuilder that has ever lived. there is nothing about Richard Sandrak to indicate anabolic steroid use, he just trains and was brought up on an incredibly strict diet which kept his bodyfat percentage low and therefore allowed him to have an incredibly defined physique. he actually had very minimal muscular developement, it is simply shocking to see someone that young who is that lean, that is all. His body is producing hardly any testosterone before puberty, hence why he has such a small amount of muscle to show for al the training he did. He "lost" his 8-pack as he got older because quite simply he added bodyfat, which obscured muscular definition. His father went to jail and he could eat carbs again; before then on the diet his father had him he'd be in a nearly constant state of ketosis which would account for his low bodyfat. For those of you slinging steroid accusations about, please do a least the teensiest bit of research on them first before doing so because most of the comments so far have shown a gross misunderstanding of the effects of AAS and how they are used. If there were any legitimacy to the accusation that Richard's father had been giving him a powder in his protein shakes, it was in all likelihood Tribulus terrestris, an herb which is found among other places in Easern Europe which supposedly increases the production of leutinizing hormone, which in turn causes the testes to produce more testosterone. So far no studies have shown this to be true, so it is all anecdotal so far, and even if it did work it would have negligiable effects on a young child, if any. And the previous poster is right about oral steroids destroying the liver, there's no way a child would be able to take them without massive liver damage and almost immediate liver failure. It doesn't make the draconian methods employed by Richard's family right, but the obviously weren't giving him steroids.
Anabolic Steriod Use, a response?
[edit]If his dad was giving up steriods secretely it would have had to have been oral (in his shakes), not intramuscular. Therefore, they would have had to be of the 17AA (I think that's what they're called) kind which means heavy liver damage if used for extended periods of time. In a child as young as 6 this, surely, would have caused death.
Anabolic steriods don't enable a person to bench 3 times their weight, especially at 8 years old. If I took all the steriods in the world, I still wouldn't be benching 420lbs @ 140lb bodyweight and I'm a 22 year old man, let alone when I was 8 years old. IMO he's a genetic wonderchild. And his less bulky figure and more looking body is a result of his farther not pushing him to train like a mad man. Further, if his farther went to jail and the steriods stopped instantly surely Richard would not have been able to cycle off whatever he was on correctly, leading to long term problems of his body shutting down its own testostorne production.
Just because he has superior genetics to you in that respect, it doesn't mean that he wasn't being fed steroids.
I'm no expert on this matter, far from it. I, however, would like this information to be presented to the public. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable in anabolic steriod use and effects could draft something up and insert it into the article?
Also a further point in reply to the 8 pack - that is compltely genetic. IFBB bodybuilders take vast quantaties of steriods but don't magically have an 8 pack. It's entirely genetic. The 8 pack simply isn't a sign of steriod use. Further, contrary to poular belief you dont need to work the abs for them to show through. They are already increadibly dense and it just needs bodyfat lowering so one can see them. It's the same thing with calf muscles, that's why you can see everyone's calfs unless they are grossly overweight. Even in 6 year old children.

- no steroids here. it is genetic deviation. cant find link in this article. there is a genetic" disorder" some top athletes have that

Movie Deal
[edit]Richard has a 3 movie deal, the first of which, Little Hercules in 3-D, will be out summer of 2006.
- putting in his school name is an invitation for problems to him, I will remove it if you put it in. TripleH1976 07:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
I took out the part about him not being able to have a six pack. That statement seems specious and only put there to amuse as it is also followed by "..." I think a source should be needed before such a statement is said. I remember some of my younger cousins having six packs and whatnot. Normally what determines such muscle definition in the abs is fat content and not development of the abdominal muscle. -Ryan
- not true, you can be a slim guy and not have muscle definition in your abs. Those muscles need to be exercised just like any other. Richard, at the age of 6, had his abs too defined. The poor guy his dad must have only fed him vegetables. I'm glad he's away from him now. TripleH1976 03:45, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Alot of kids aged 11-13 have six-packs!
- We are not talking about "alot of kids" we're talking about Richard Sandrak. Furthermore, Richard goes beyond a six-pack. At age 6, he had an eight-pack. Something very rare for a 6 year old. TripleH1976 Sun 08:22 p.m., 18 June 2006 (UTC)
Most of my younger cousins and friends have small six packs.
- Good for them. But what the hell is your point? TripleH1976 Mon, 15:57 p.m., 19 June 2006 (UTC)
My point is that most kids actually do have six packs just not really ripped ones like Richard.
- All right, fine, I'm not disputing that you can get a six-pack. So long as you eat properly and you get plenty of exercise, yes, you can get them. However, when it comes to Richard Sandrak, when he was 6 years old, he had more then a six-pack. He had an eight-pack; a very defined eight-back. That's not normal for a 6 year old. It takes many years for an adult to get an eight-pack. I believe his father was giving him steroids. Richard was unaware of it. What small child believes his father is giving him sport enhancing drugs? None, because children trust their parents and believe they have their best interest at heart. Most athletic kids will show a tiny six pack or eight.
- WE AREN'T TALKING ABOUT TINY, ALL RIGHT? I'M REFERRING TO A WELL-DEFINED, BULGING 8-PACK. You seem to want to argue with me for the sake of arguing. You have brought nothing to the discussion to explain why Richard, at the age of 6, could have a well-defined bulging set of 8 pack. The fact that you can say your young cousins or friend, athletic or not, have tiny 6-packs DOES NOT explain Richard. I don't know how old you are, but judging by your comments you must be pretty young. I suggest you grow up a little bit and learn a few things about human anatomy and biology, and then you'll understand why Richard's eight-pack, at 6 years old, could not have come from regular exercise alone. I'm finished with you. TripleH1976 Thurs, 18:54 p.m., 22 June 2006 (UTC)
You suck! You piece of crap!
Can I ask for all of your sources that pertain to a 6 year old not able to obtain a well defined eight pack without steroid usage? Thanks
Young kids can have little six packs, but an eight pack like Richard, no, just not possible without some sort of muscle enhancing drug, its just stupid. Hes not on steroids now and he just has a six pack, don't you think it would take a while for natural muscle to wear off, not with steriods, it can come off quickly. It obvious that he used steroids.
Is everyone so preoccupied about debating why kids can't have 20 pack abs they can't be fucked discussing his theoretical current mental state? I'm curious to know what's really in his head... But then again that's what EVERYONE wants. --Kitetsu 14:30, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Pizza
[edit]Why is there such a focus on Richard's ability to eat pizza? Is that really relevant? Especially the bit about "Following the removal of Pavlo from Richard's life, Richard was allowed to experience some of the normal aspects of life for children of his age, including ... the ability to eat foods like pizza..."?
- Well, besides the fact that it is quite normal food in western Europe and America and not being allowed to eat it is somewhat strage, I think the most important point is: Bodybuilders fear pizza ;). Few proteins with a lot of carbs and fat, plus a ton of calories - pizza is a very good example of what NOT to eat. Eating pizza and all that "bad" food is usually associated with a bulking cycle using steroids. Maybe that is a reason why some are so crazy about that part Tierlieb 19:13, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
His height & weight
[edit]His bodybuilding natural or not has stunted his growth - that is a fact; please read up on why it is not good to start bodybuilding at age 2. And if for some reason you must feel the need to edit his height and add 7 inches please reference this to a source please. Deanbb 21:53, 6 September 2007 (GMT)
He is actually 5'11" now, I play basketball with him at the gym and he is dunking over people like crazy. He's in really good shape right now and i know he's not taking and never did take any steroids... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.173.163.193 (talk) 20:44, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit]A picture would be nice! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.34.219.129 (talk) 09:46, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
I agree. It would let people know how the guy looks -- I shall add a template requesting one soon, okay? Thanks for coming up with the suggestion! :) We must make sure, though, that it is a picture on which no copyright lays or other restriction for usage permitted. -The Bold Guy- (talk) 16:11, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Cyrillic Name
[edit]What would his name be in Cyrillic? "Ричард Сандрак" Doesn't sound Ukrainain nor Russian, his last name i mean.
Also does he speak russian or ukrainian. His mother being a famous soviet athelet, I am positive she speaks russian predominantly. It's been bugging me that the article states he has a "Ukrainian accent" when it's probably Russian.
Another thing, the article needs to mention the names of the parents.
Why isn't anything cited? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.47.220.84 (talk) 06:47, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- His bio on his official website says he moved to America at the age of two, so unless his parents prevented him having contact with English-speaking children, it's actually extremely unlikely he has a foreign accent at all, whether Russian or Ukrainian. —Angr If you've written a quality article... 08:54, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Height?
[edit]What is Sandraks height? Most articles on bodybuilders here have a recent height and weight included, why not here? Can some one search for some more information on this? 217.121.99.44 (talk) 14:32, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
- That would be interesting indeed - I personally find it strange there is so view on the web about it. 193.172.170.26 (talk) 12:48, 10 December 2008 (UTC)
Gutted?
[edit]Looks like this has been gutted [1], presumably for lack of sources (following WP:BLP). However, there are a LOT out there though - start here. (Emperor (talk) 22:16, 26 November 2009 (UTC))
How in the world can anyone say that it is bad not to give there children unhealthy food like pizza. I dont eat pizza today becouse i found that the healthy food makes me ALOT more happy and strong. This world we are living in today is completely sick. IF you are relly loving Mc-D Eat youself to death and let us others rule the world. Just stay FAR FAR away from me and my familly!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.63.197.118 (talk) 21:55, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
Different facts
[edit]Why does it say in the first paragraph that he now works out 4 times a week, 90 minutes a time, while the second paragraph says he now works out for 120 minutes six times a week? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.243.12.163 (talk) 05:58, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
<1% body fat
[edit]The article claims that he had less than 1% body fat, but as far as I know that is impossible.☣Yutsi — Talk/Edits 16:20, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
- Yes there is absolutely no way he has even close to 1% 2603:8001:7400:54D7:4479:9849:56B7:C105 (talk) 21:34, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
