Duration of appointment as Speaker of the Commons
[edit]This article states he was in the appointment of speaker for "the remaining five years of his life". This is technically incorrect as Parliament did not yet habitually meet with annual regularity and its summoning was very much at the sovereign's (then Elizabeth I) pleasure. The parliament in which he was appointed was dissolved in January 1567, after he had been in office 3 months. The next parliament summoned, after a 3 year interval, was called in 1571 but he died on 2 April, prior to its dissolution on 29 May 1571. The History of Parliament informs that Sir Christopher Wrey was appointed speaker of that session, while Onslow sat as a backbench MP. I will modify the statement.Cloptonson (talk) 10:34, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
