Mary Newport

[edit]

The identification of Mary or Maria Newport, who married William Gratewood, as a a daughter of Richard Newport seems doubtful. The Visitation of Shropshire makes her his daughter in the entry for the Hill family. Under Newport of High Ercall, however, she appears twice, first as his sister, i.e. a daughter of Thomas Newport, and over the page as Richard's daughter. Sister seems much more likely on chronological grounds. A footnote in the Visitation seems to suggest a good deal of confusion over the identity of Mary and her putative sister Magdalene or Maudlin. It's a riddle and I can't say I know the answer. Sjwells53 (talk) 16:23, 7 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
