Why the spelling of Jerningham instead of Jernegan?

The best evidence I have of spelling variants comes from Druery, 1826, where he wrote (p. 177): "Sir Henry Jernegan, knt. or Jerningham, (for he appears to have varied the name, probably to distinguish his family from the Somerleyton branch)..."

Thus, I prefer to use "Jernegan" for the Somerleyton Jernegans and earlier (pre 1555), and "Jerningham" for the Costessey Jerninghams. juanitogan (talk) 05:37, 16 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
