Hoffmann / Hoffman / Hofmann

[edit]

There are multiple composers with similar names:

  1. Richard Hoffman (1831–1909), English-born American composer and pianist
  2. Richard Hofmann (1844–1918), German composer and pedagogue who worked in Leipzig
  3. Richard Hoffmann (born 1925), Austrian-born composer, student of Arnold Schoenberg

The article in question here is Richard Hoffman (1831–1909). Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians and the Universal-Handbuch Musikliterature (1910) lists his name as "Richard Hoffman", and his scores were published under the spelling "Hoffman".
