[edit]I've golfed RHF four times from 2000 till 2002, and each time was a treat. The first time, on a beautiful Sunday, only four foursomes were on the course, our foursome, Dick Butkis, Michael Jordon and the owner, Jerry Rich. The course is magnificent, extremely well-maintained and first-class all-around. Jerry Rich, a quiet, understated man, was approchable and a affable. We still exchange Christmas cards.
Did he really invent the UPC code? I think that's just a myth. I was told that he sold his idea to the Japanese once they saw the potential of his invention. Everywhere I research it says someone else, George J. Laurer invented it. I know for a fact that Rich worked with computer integration systems and majored in math. Anyone know the answer to what made him his money?
There's quite a few references in print about him being an integrated computer systems engineer, graduated from NIU, and made his fortune selling his technology to wall street traders. Now he has a company that builds home automation, http://www.isr-usa.com/.
