I am just unsure if spesial is the correct term as i study Indonesian and the word normally used is istemewa. Thatparkourkid (talk) 01:35, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- To clarify, istimewa and spesial both means "special", but in the context of Ribu, spesial comes from colonial-era Dutch speciaal and the name stuck.
- Contemporary Indonesian (and Malay) use istimewa and ribu to mean "special" and "thousand", with both words traceable to Sanskrit. In this article, they are used somewhat as proper nouns to describe a group of special geographic features above a thousand metre. Hytar (talk) 22:49, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
