Re: Dismissal from the Royal Academy for "Gross Incompetence". Laurence whistler notes that this was the phrase used by Rex himself in his interview with Professor Tonks for admission to the Slade (Rex Whistler :His life and Drawings). He recounts that Rex was aked not to return by letter. Professor Tonks later thanked them for sending him his best Pupil.
