[edit]Hello
I just read this article and one thing struck me: in the episode where Homer, Ned, Grandpa & Apu go to bring Canadian medicine into the USA, it is NED who tells Apu 'why not call Hawkman' But maybe Lovejoy said this as well some time?
proposed move:
[edit]To Reverend Lovejoy since that's what he is better known as. Buc 10:20, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. Some of the characters are better known by their titles, not than their full names (i.e. most people say Mr Burns, Miss Hoover, Principal Skinner, Krusty the Clown, Superintendent Chalmers, Groundskeeper Willie, and Comic Book Guy).

Homosexuality
[edit]In the secton "Tolerance", I was surprised to see that there was no mention of the reverend's opinion of homosexuality?
It's been a long time since I saw it, but I believe in There's Something About Marrying, Rev. Lovejoy has a role in his opposition to same-sex marriage?
Anyone wanna clarify this?
Thanks Gay15boy (talk) 07:50, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, I think Lovejoy said that, though he didn't hold anything personal against homosexuals, he couldn't marry them due to his religious beliefs. Of course, I could be wrong, I haven't seen the episode in a while. -- Lord Crayak (talk) 00:50, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Requested move

The result of the proposal was move per request as the clear common name.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 01:38, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Reverend Timothy Lovejoy → Reverend Lovejoy – per WP:COMMONNAME, "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's "official" name as an article title; it instead uses the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources". A google news archive search gives 244 results for "Reverend Lovejoy", compared to only 10 for "Reverend Timothy Lovejoy". A similar story with google books, where I get 651 results for the proposed title and only 24 for the current title. In addition, this move will also conform with WP:PRECISION. - Support. "Reverend Lovejoy" seems to be the common name. De728631 (talk) 23:54, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- Support..but keep full name in lead sentence, only. CTJF83 23:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yep, I agree the lead sentence should still have the full name (standard practice on Wikipedia). Jenks24 (talk) 00:11, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Support: He is virtually always called "Reverend Lovejoy" on the show. Same deal for Mr. Burns versus C. Montgomery Burns. –CWenger (^ • @) 01:03, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose Reverend Elijah Lovejoy and Reverend Owen Lovejoy should not be shortchanged with a popculture minor character. The redirect should be a disambiguation page. 184.144.166.87 (talk) 05:57, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Reverend Lovejoy has been redirected to this article since 2004 and a search of the google news archive or google books gives results only relating to the Simpsons character. I think it's pretty clear that the Simpsons character is the primary topic of "Reverend Lovejoy". Jenks24 (talk) 08:14, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Support. Clearly the primary topic, clearly the most common name. And as a fictional character, we don't need to consider WP:NCPEOPLE. Powers T 13:31, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
