Imho, this page was rather confusing, being part information and part disambiguation. I've attempted to resolve this by splitting the information on position loacation to a new article, and changing this to a disambiguation page. CultureDrone (talk) 09:04, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think surgical resection needs its own article instead of just a redirect. Someone the Person (talk) 16:06, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Resection with measured distances and withoutDarwipli (talk) 15:03, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

[edit]

I had at one stage added the explanation for Resection (Free Stationing) because there are people out there, don't understand the difference. In Surveying a resection measures angels only, to calculate the position of the instrument or the observer. Using a the method of Free Stationing, measures Angels AND distances. Unfortunately companies like Trimble or Topcon use the Word Resection instead of Free Stationing. The method used in their software is actually a Free Stationing (measuring angels AND distances. In the 12d Model software it is called Helmert Resection. But in their helpfile it is also referring to a Resection. And again it is actually a Free Stationing, since there angels and distances are measured. Since these companies refer in their software to a resection, users of Wikipedia want to know how a Resection (Free Stationing) is calculated, this page is needed to link to a Resection and to a Free Stationing. I will correct this.
