@GlassyEye: I only saw this post now, two years later! I was intrigued by this post so I started looking for any local sources, and I can't find much. I see that a contract was signed between REL and Chance in 1941 once the shop was already up and running, and also a mention in passing of "advisory capacity in the setting-up of Research Enterprises Limited", but that's all I can find. There are other mentions of REL and Chance but they are unrelated, mostly passing mentions of sniper scopes. Most interesting is an article by Phillips about the creation of REL in an issue that also talks about Chance, but there is no mention of Chance in the development of REL, although he does compare their process to that of Chance.
