Nobel Laureates section
[edit]For the record, I also received an award from the Corporation, in 1969 I believe, so could be added to the list. Their online listing does not go back that far, unfortunately. Somewhere I believe I have a jazzy citation from them that can confirm this. RC are included in my Who's Who listing but that is not of course a RS as people write their own entries. --Brian Josephson (talk) 11:47, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
Edits to lead section
This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. |
I am an employee of Research Corporation and see some edits that should be made to update the article:
This citation could be added to the lead section: https://www.insidephilanthropy.com/home/2022-6-28-we-spoke-with-dan-linzer-president-of-research-corporation-for-science-advancement-here-are-5-takeaways
In the second paragraph, "America's colleges and universities" should be replaced with "colleges and universities in the United States and Canada." Citations: https://rescorp.org/cottrell-scholars/guidelines https://rescorp.org/scialog/faq
This citation could be added to the 5th paragraph: https://rescorp.org/rcsa/history/archives
This new paragraph could be added to the first section:
More recently, RCSA made critical initial investments in major telescope projects that have helped advance modern astronomy. One was RCSA’s three-decade commitment to the construction of the Large Binocular Telescope on Mount Graham in southeastern Arizona. Citation" https://rescorp.org/news/2024/06/large-binocular-telescope-a-long-term-investment-for-rcsa RCSA also played a foundational role in the birth of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Citation: https://rescorp.org/news/2024/06/rcsa-played-founding-role-in-creation-of-the-lsst
In the section Grants Programs: Cottrell Scholar Awards:
The program now provides $120,000 over three years to early-career faculty in chemistry, physics, astronomy, biochemistry and biophysics at primarily undergraduate institutions and major research universities. There are more than 500 Scholars in the United States and Canada. Citation: https://rescorp.org/cottrell-scholars
Grants Programs: Cottrell College Science Awards is no longer offered and could be omitted.
Grants Programs: Arizona Partners in Science Awards is no longer offered and could be omitted.
Research Corporation has a new program since 2019, so I suggest the addition of a new section:
Grants Programs: Scialog https://rescorp.org/scialog
RCSA launched its Scialog program in 2010 to bring together cross-disciplinary groups of early career scientists to address scientific challenges of global significance. Citation: https://doi.org/10.1021/acsenergylett.9b00626
Each Scialog initiative consists of three or more yearly meetings where Scialog Fellows participate in intensive discussions to identify bottlenecks and challenges, and to pitch proposals for seed funding for collaborative research projects. Scialog’s format for catalyzing collaboration, at both virtual and in-person meetings, has been the subject of academic study. Citations: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2112.08468 https://journals.aps.org/prresearch/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevResearch.4.L042001
Scialog themes have included:
Advanced Energy Storage - 2017-2019 Advancing BioImaging - 2021-2023 (Citation: https://joshbrake.substack.com/p/scialog-gets-the-prototyping-mindset) Automating Chemical Laboratories – 2024-2026 Chemical Machinery of the Cell - 2018-2021 Early Science with the LSST – 2024-2026 Microbiome, Neurobiology and Disease - 2021-2023 Mitigating Zoonotic Threats - 2021-2023 Molecular Basis of Cognition – 2022-2024 Molecules Come to Life – 2015-2017 Negative Emissions Science – 2020-2023 (Citation: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.isci.2021.103188) Neurobiology and Changing Ecosystems – 2025-2027 Signatures of Life in the Universe – 2021-2023 Solar Energy Conversion – 2010-2014 Sustainable Minerals, Metals, and Materials – 2024-2026 Time Domain Astrophysics – 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019
Each Scialog series has at least one major cosponsor that helps develop the theme, identify Facilitators and Fellows, and fund project awards. Major cosponsors have included the Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group, the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation, the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR), the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the Frederick Gardner Cottrell Foundation, the Heising-Simons Foundation, The Kavli Foundation, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

- Hi, many of the sources here derive directly from the subject's own website and are thus non-independent. Please therefore provide alternative neutral sourcing. For example, it is the subject's own opinion that they
made critical initial investments in major telescope projects that have helped advance modern astronomy
, but is it anyone else's opinion? You will appreciate that we cannot populate encyclopaedia article with subjects' claims about themselves. Regards, Axad12 (talk) 11:22, 20 October 2024 (UTC)- Not done:. As per the above. But also, some of the suggested edits include text which is lifted directly (or very closely) from the sourced concerned, which is a breach of WP:COPYVIO, and other claims in the suggested text are not borne out by the sources. I think you need to go completely back to the drawing board with this, starting again with new COI edit requests with smaller batches of edits, with each one independently sourced with no copyvio and with everything that is claimed in the edits borne out by the sources attached to each edit. Regards, Axad12 (talk) 11:30, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
