Talk:Rescue of Jews by Catholics during the Holocaust

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Rescue of Jews by Catholics during the Holocaust's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "Phayer, p.87":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 09:32, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Update return of Jewish orphans to their relatives with 2020 insights re Pope Pius XII; Finaly Affair

[edit]

In respect to the return of Jewish orphans to their relatives, this article contrasts with other articles such as Jewish orphans controversy. New light is being shed on the history of Pope Pius XII's views and behind-the-scenes work, e.g. in the Finaly Affair, where the Vatican impeded efforts of relatives to get custody, as most recently reported in the Atlantic at https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/08/the-popes-jews/615736/ This article should be updated. ★NealMcB★ (talk) 18:46, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mit Brennender Sorge 19

[edit]

Mit Brennender Sorge, the Christmas eve encyclical against the Nazis https://www.vatican.va/content/pius-xi/en/encyclicals/documents/hf_p-xi_enc_14031937_mit-brennender-sorge.html also contains a definition and declaration of an anathema, explicitly in paragraph 33. This might not pop out to a secular reader but in church history anathema is the most severe of all possible penalties, and it was more often practiced in the Eastern churches. The old rite for the declaration of an anathema (in Latin) is at https://www.liturgialatina.org/pontificale/101.htm and defines what it means. That pontifical book was superseded in (I think) 1971, so that was the contextual meaning when 'anathema' was written then. You can reword it if you don't like my tone, but it is a significant fact that the encyclical includes an anathema, which applies to the Nazis but it isn't limited to them in the past, it's "whoever shall...". Edits to Lede/Overview & Talk page

[edit]

Hello and well wishes future editors! I have taken the liberty of trying to make a few slight improvements relating to this article.

First, I created an Archive Page for this Talk to clean out long outdated messages from bots (a function which hasnt been a thing since 2018 anyway) and threw out a topic started by an IP user who years later still never responded when their opinion was challenged. As another topic already existed that attempts to make a similar point (without undue bias and personal opinion), it was overall undue to remain. I have kept the rest of the topics here as they appear to still hold possible value to future editors. If you see any issues relating to the archive page, please correct it. This was my first time having to create a talk archive from scratch instead of one already existing, so Im sure I may have made some error of some kind. Thank you!

Secondly, reading what is supposed to be the "lede" of the page felt way too long and somewhat oddly structured. I am always wary of resorting to deleting/removing portions from work I am not a subject matter expert in, but I believe my solution of dividing it into a 2 paragraph lede followed by the rest being labelled as an "Overview" section was the best course of action to help clean up the page, especially for any readers who see the sheer length of the article and feel turned off from wanting to go that deep into the rabbit hole but still want a general understanding of the topic. If you see a better way of addressing this problem, through a big or small edit, please do so!

I hope my edits have been constructive and helpful. Have a great day! TheRazgriz (talk) 16:22, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
