I don‘t think this article is justified. The country only changed its name in 1965 and had a new constitution, it didn't become a new country. --moyogo 10:04, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
It should really just be incorporated into the Democratic Republic of Congo's wiki page if it's not already. It is confusing. I was reading about it just now and became very puzzled when I found that history of this Republic only stretched as far as 196x. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.120.25.229 (talk) 16:31, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
Split proposal
There is some disquiet about the title/scope of this article with some justification, considering the Congo's various changes in composition and even name in the period covered here. I suggest a split, between "First Congolese Republic" and "Second Congolese Republic". The scope of each (1960-65 and 1965-71) would provide the same kind of clarity as French Fourth Republic/French Fifth Republic. The idea of Congolese republics is well-established in both French and English, see here and here. The "Republic of the Congo (Léopoldville)" and "Congo-Léopoldville" could become a disambig to the two articles. What does everyone think? —Brigade Piron (talk) 08:50, 20 October 2015 (UTC)
