Tables for ships?
[edit]I was wondering if anyone had any objections to organizing the list of ships in the fleet into a table similar to the aircraft in the interest of clarity and saving space? Example below. -Loren 07:03, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Grammar
[edit]"Aircraft" not "aircrafts", please. John Smith's (talk) 10:05, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Upper or lower case and general style
[edit]In the tables that list the various aircraft, missiles, etc and anon-IP editor has changed upper case descriptions to lower case ones. For example "maritime patrol aircraft" instead of "Maritime patrol aircraft". I personally prefer upper case, so unless anyone has strong objections I will change them over when I have the time. Otherwise please leave your views here.
Furthermore I agree with Loren's proposal above. I don't like the colour of the current table, nor the fact it's separated. I'll look into carrying out the work when possible. John Smith's (talk) 20:18, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Further to there being no objections, I have changed the table colour to a nice "naval grey" which is more in keeping with the article's theme (the blue-green was not nice). I have also merged destroyers and frigates together into "surface combatants", rather than have a table for one class of ship.
On the matter of aircraft in service, I don't think it would be appropriate using a citation from four years ago. John Smith's (talk) 16:10, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I've also made a few edits to try to get the pictures to line up properly and remove clashes between the "edit" links and the pictures - apologies for not getting it on the first edit. John Smith's (talk) 16:15, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
One last thing. I changed the patrol ship entry to "Fast Attack Missile Craft", as they all carry anti-ship missiles so there's no point using the more generic "patrol" type. John Smith's (talk) 16:21, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
under construction
[edit]I disagree with removing that information. Saying when something will be completed is not the same as saying its currently under construction. So I will revert its omission to restore that piece of information.Giovanni33 (talk) 23:52, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- In that case it's also misleading to say 30 are under construction, as they're not. I am changing the entry accordingly. John Smith's (talk) 00:08, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Removal of flags
[edit]I have restored the flags because Pyl's justification in removing them is invalid - there is no "flag convention". There is a MoS that makes suggestions over how they can be used, but I do not see anything that contradicts their use here.
He has complained that:
- The flags make the article difficult to read.
- These tables do not fall into the MoS guidelines.
- It is confusing to use the ROC flag with the word "Taiwan".
I would respond as thus:
- The flags do not make the article difficult to read and actually enhance the tables, making the origins easier to identify.
- The MoS gives suggestions, not a finite number of examples, as to when flags can be used. Again, a MoS is not binding and there appropriate people can make their own styles.
- It is not confusing at all, because Taiwan is a well known location. On the other hand "Republic of China" is highly confusing. Having "Taiwan" is thus a lot better and as the flag is flown on the island there's no reason not to use it.
On another note I am trimming the arms discussion as most of it is not relevant to the navy. John Smith's (talk) 18:37, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Hai Shih class submarines: One Tench, one Balao
[edit]The article lists both Hai Shih submarines as Tench-class. However, one of them, the former USS Tusk (SS-426), is actually Balao-class. -- 188.194.254.195 (talk) 14:30, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Cheng Kung-class frigates
[edit]Cheng Kung-class frigates were locally built in Taiwan not second hand purchased from the US, there is a entire wiki page about that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 107.199.203.79 (talk) 06:02, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
