Similarity to structural unit?

[edit]

This page appears to cover the same material as structural unit. Unless some substantive difference between the two terms is explained(I don't believe there is one) these pages should be merged.

I have continued this discussion at Talk: Structural unit Dirac66 (talk) 23:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

a repeat unit is a part of a polymer unit which is repeated along a chain. Related but not the same as a structural unit. Don't merge ---djsiniestros (talk) 18:16, 11 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please check what I wrote at Talk: Structural unit in response to Locke9k. I did explain that the two terms are not identical, but a merged article could explain both terms as well as the differences between them, with examples. Dirac66 (talk) 01:12, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that although both are related, there are significant differences between them. I suggest that one could elaborate on these differences, in each of the respective articles accordingly, and make a link between them. This would also improve the structural unit article and make it longer. ---djsinietro (talk) 21:12, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Moreover, I think merging both articles could create confusion for some users as they are related terms that yet don't mean the same thing. Since they are not equal, I reckon they qualify for their own pages. For example, both terms are related to polymers, but that is not enough a reason to merge them there. I'd go for the option of highlighting the differences between them in their respective articles, but with an emphasis on the structural unit one. but that's just my two cents.---djsinietro (talk) 21:12, 12 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I will agree to two separate articles in order to clarify that there are two different concepts. Each article should explain its own subject first, and then refer to the other with example(s) to clarify the difference. At the moment this article does not mention structural unit at all. The other article on structural unit does at least mention repeat unit, with an example but not much of an explanation of the difference. Dirac66 (talk) 01:57, 13 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
