Deletions and notes to translation

[edit]

Here are a few notes on my translation of material from the German page for de:Rendzina.

*Rendzina is a soil type under the German system of soil classification, so I think that a detailed explanation in the context of this system is not helpful for a wider, English-speaking audience. Therefore I excluded sections that are only meaningful within this system, most notably the section of horizon designations.

*The original German article had no in-line references whatsoever, so I excluded several parts that I was unsure of and could not confirm in other sources.

*From the English original, I removed "The plant communities are distinctive, with much scrub and calcareous grassland, often with unusual or even rare species." I suspect this is a particularly British perspective - in Germany, many of these soils are under forest.

*Also I removed "intrazonal soil" because, while evidently true, the link to the 1938 USDA Soil Taxonomy is rather historical, and the current version does not seem to use "intrazonal" as a high-level characteristic for classification. Kyle MoJo (talk) 21:31, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
