Fraud
I was hoping to find information on whether there is any fraud protection and if so how it works, since there is nothing obvious to prevent someone from depositing a single check more than once, possibly in multiple accounts, multiple banks, or even the same account on different dates. This has now happened to me, three checks that I have written to the same person have all been deposited twice. The first check's second cashing was reversed by my bank after I contacted them to inquire about the situation; there was a delay, and I never received information about whether the two deposits were to the same bank and/or account. Several weeks later, the other two checks were each also cashed for the second time, and I am just now pursuing the situation. Apparently a victim can arrange for reimbursement after some delays and inconvenience and diligent account monitoring, but it seems to me that if banks are going to allow remote deposits, they should have a capability to prevent multiple deposits of the same check. Other countries?
Do other countries have remote deposit? I hesitated to tag this article with {{globalize}} but it seems to be written entirely from a United States perspective. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 16:07, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
- I think this is US specific or perhaps North American specific, in most other countries cheque truncation happens via banks only. In most countries the decline in cheque usage has been so significant that the ability to send a cheque image is seens as unnecessary as it has been replaced by sending money directly via internet banking or debit cards.
