"At around the age of eight she became interested in competitive skiing; she represented the US in alpine skiing at the Youth Olympic Games for two consecutive years"
I liked that part of her bio, but I found it strange that she took part "for two consecutive years", because the games are arranged once every four years.
I tried to check all the starting lists for alpine skiing in the Youth Olympic Games but did not find her there.
And the site of the international ski federation FIS only list competitions in the US for her, and she was never top 20, even if those competitions were almost US only affairs. So I find it a bit hard to grasp how she would have made it to the actual Youth Olympics.
Maybe she's mentioned that she has taken part in qualifying for the youth olympics, and that has somehow turned into the idea that she's taken part in the actual event.
@Petski B: You make a good point. At about 10:25 in this newer interview she speaks in great depth about her skiing career and training, claiming that it lasted 10 years and that she spent a good portion of time in the national top 100 ranking for her age group (which I figure is the USSA ranking). Found these two lists (A and B) of race results on her USSA profile, which differ slightly. I'm assuming she took part in the 2010 Olympics but didn't finish the race. The following year she took part in what I assume is the World Junior Championships but obviously not Olympics, and then there's not much else after 2012 (which makes sense since she claims in the interview she stopped skii'ing at age 16). She still maintains in the interview that she competed in the J Olympics twice (but doesn't say consecutively). Claims 2008-9 was the peak of her career, so she could have took part maybe in 2006 without it being listed on her USSA profile? Also found this news article about her qualifying for the 2011 champs, but still might need to do a bit more deep diving. —cybertrip👽 ( 💬 • 📝) 16:22, 2 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
