Irreligion?
[edit]I’m confused by the statistics of the Latino Barometer. Countries in the Carribean and Latin America tend to be a fair bit more religious than other western countries, but all of a sudden, a country like the Dominican Republic has European-levels of irreligion? Any explanation for this? Gavin the Otter (talk) 00:29, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- Odd that there is no explanation given, but, I couldn't find any source trying to explain it. I suspect it may mean reluctance to answer. This probably includes citizens who follow Dominican Vudú or immigrants following Haitian Vodou (note Haitians living in the Dominican Republic may make up 10-20% of the total population, they are not treated kindly and most are undocumented) who are missing from the statistics yet are known to exist (though many may be nominally Catholic). To quote the 2022 State department religious freedom report "An unknown number of Haitians [living in the Dominican republic] practice Voudou or other Afro-Caribbean beliefs such as Santería". https://www.state.gov/reports/2022-report-on-international-religious-freedom/dominican-republic/ Erp (talk) 15:29, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
