I don't think this is particular to Germany, it's only a German language categorization. Actually, I have seen more Reihendörfer (lit. row villages) in Hungary than anywhere else. Same goes for the Haufendorf. -- Theoprakt (talk) 13:32, 3 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't particular to Germany, but it's not a German language categorisation either. It's a categorisation used by German and English authors when discussing settlement patterns and types in Europe, especially Germany, but I've also seen it for settlements in Austria and Poland. Germans being Germans they define settlement types much more precisely and so there are no commonly accepted English equivalents.
