regional police force definition
[edit]there is no real consensus that I can find about the definition of a regional police force except for the uncited lede of this article, and there is obviously disagreement about whether or not the Halifax & Cape Breton regional police forces meet that definition.
from my perspective, the New York City Police Department, Toronto Police Service, Hamilton Police Service, Rivers Police Service, and Ottawa Police Service all meet the definition of regional police if that definition is expanded to include police forces that cover amalgamated municipalities. given that a regional municipality is a type of single-tier municipal corporation in Nova Scotia, I'm not sure that their "regional police" branding is particularly relevant to the question of whether or not they count as true regional police forces. it could be argued though that given Nova Scotia's unique municipal governance framework, the Halifax & Cape Breton forces fall into their own distinct category.
