New article

[edit]

I created this article to balance out Ulysses S. Grant presidential administration scandals article. More can be expanded. The Grant Administration was influenced by both the forces of corruption and reform. This article focuses on the reform force. Cmguy777 (talk) 06:38, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ended moiety system

[edit]

According to McFeely, some historians have noted that Grant ended the moiety system. The CR might show when this law was written and signed into law by Grant. Ari Hoogenboom was McFeely's source Civil Service Reform and Public Morality, in H. Wayne Morgan, ed., The Gilded Age (Syracuse, 1970), 1-12, 77-95. I am trying to find the exact date Grant ended the moiety system, possibly 1874, after Secretary Richardson was replaced by Secretary Bristow. Any suggestions?
