No merger

[edit]

A reed relay is indeed a reed switch with something added, but the added coil caused it to be put to much different use. Reed switches still do the sensory work for which they were designed. Reed relays were important in the 1960s as data storage, and again in the 1970s and 80s as voice switching devices. So yes, the articles should link to each other but no, they should not be merged.

I intend to add some more information about the control of reed switching arrays (which were grids of reed relays, not of reed switches) in the near future, similar to what I wrote last week in crossbar switch. Mixing this description into an article about reed sensory switches would make it more confusing. Jim.henderson 03:47, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The part of the article about the crosspoint switch is somewhat difficult to follow. 69.140.164.142 01:19, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The link to the 50 or so manufacturers of reed relays is dead. "electronic-components.globalspec.com" cannot be found.
