The result of the move request was: moved. per Option 2. Since there is consensus that [document] redaction is the primary topic, Redact will redirect to Redaction, which will have a hatnote to the dab. (non-admin closure) Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 18:24, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

- Redaction → ?

– Redact should be moved to Redaction or Redaction (disambiguation) per WP:NOUN. The primary topic/common name for "redaction" and related articles should be reassessed. I see a few possible directions here, which I have outlined as:
Option 1: No primary topic
Option 2: Document redaction is primary topic
Option 3: Redaction is primary topic, amend Redact
Option 4: No change Wracking talk! 01:58, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- WikiNav and pageviews analysis: (Note that these data are from before the pagemove to "Document redaction".)
- Redact: outgoing pageviews are almost exactly evenly split between Sanitization (classified information) (42.86%) and Redaction (41.18%).
- Redaction: 55.19% of outgoing pageviews are to Sanitization (classified information); about 9.6% of viewers of Redaction go to Sanitization (classified information).
- Document redaction: I was unable to load WikiNav for Document redaction due to the recent page move.
- See pageviews analysis here.
- Option 2 or Option 1. I believe that Document redaction is the primary topic, but I could agree that there is no primary topic at all. I do not believe that Redaction is the primary topic.
- Some dictionaries list "document redaction" as the primary definition.[1][2][3] Collins provides a less specific description,[4] but its auto-selected examples are largely related to document redaction.[5][6] Oxford via Google defines it as "the process of editing text for publication" with sub-definitions of "the censoring or obscuring of part of a text for legal or security purposes" and "a version of a text, such as a new edition or an abridged version", in that order.[7] I believe that document redaction is the more common use of the term.
- WhatLinksHere for Redaction has incorrect links (intended to be pointing to Document redaction), indicating confusion with the current naming. Wracking talk! 02:39, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- Option 2 I agree that the document one is primary topic. However, I disagree with moving this page. It should become a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT per WP:ONEOTHER. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:09, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- Zxcvbnm, That makes sense to me. I hadn't seen WP:ONEOTHER before, thanks for sharing it. For clarity, you would prefer that Document redaction is renamed to "Redaction" and that Redaction is renamed to "Literary redaction"? And for this page, Redact, could you clarify what should happen (if anything)? Thanks. Wracking talk! 15:30, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, you are correct on what I am asking for. For this page, it will simply be redirected to redaction (which will be the one about documents). A hatnote will link to literary redaction. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:03, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- Zxcvbnm, Got it. This page (the disambiguation) would then be blanked-and-redirected? (Thanks for clearing this up!) Wracking talk! 20:44, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

- Support Option 2. I agree with the nominator's arguments in favor of document redaction being the primary topic. In addition to the WhatLinksHere evidence discussed above, I noticed that the pageviews for Redaction and Sanitization (classified information) have historically tended to spike around the same time, which suggests to me that readers have frequently traveled to one article when seeking the other. The whole picture creates the impression that document redaction not holding the primary title has been a past source of confusion. (I'm neutral on Zxcvbnm's proposal to blank the DAB.)
