Red Top, Webster County, Missouri → Red Top, Missouri – There were two articles about a place called "Red Top" in Missouri: "Red Top, Dallas County, Missouri" and "Red Top, Webster County, Missouri". The Red Top in Dallas County is actually called "Redtop" (see [1]), so I changed the name to Redtop, Missouri. I then tried to change the name of "Red Top, Webster County, Missouri" (see [2]) to "Red Top, Missouri" (no need for the county name anymore), but wasn't permitted to make that change. If you could be so kind as to help me with this change I'd appreciate it. Thank you! – Magnolia677 (talk) 18:28, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:52, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: "Redtop" and "Red Top" can be confused with each other. I have moved Redtop, Missouri back to Red Top, Webster County, Missouri. I redirected Redtop, Missouri to Red Top, Missouri, which was already a disambig page. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 20:56, 15 September 2016 (UTC)
- Anthony Appleyard – please read WP:SMALLDETAILS. I think your reverted move was unnecessary. Red Top, Webster County, Missouri should be at Redtop, Missouri and Red Top, Dallas County, Missouri should be at Red Top, Missouri. A hatnote will solve confusion. SMALLDETAILS states the following:
Ambiguity may arise when typographically near-identical expressions have distinct meanings, e.g. Red meat vs. Red Meat
. Both Red Top and Redtop are different in typographically terms, though they are identical. CookieMonster755 𝚨-𝛀 01:12, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

- Anthony Appleyard - This doesn't confuse me at all. "A nice glass of water" sounds a lot like "an ice glass of water". But they're two different things. We could go on and on. What confuses me is how an edit supported by a highly reliable source was reverted for a completely incorrect edit. Please be so kind as to fix the error I came here for in the first place. I've been adding much needed content the towns in Dallas County, Missouri and I like my hard work to be correct and not incorrect. Thank you again. Magnolia677 (talk) 03:43, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
