LGBT

[edit]

This article in the San Francisco Chronicle indicates that Kaplan is a lesbian, but this article in Bay Area Reporter identifies her as bisexual. While this ought to enough (both sources seem to be reliable) to identify her as LGBT in the article, I am wondering whether any other sources are available that would definitively confirm her sexual orientation. A statement by Kaplan herself would be ideal... -- Black Falcon (talk) 06:24, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are conflicting reports of Kaplan's orientation. I will address this in a future "background" section. For now I feel it is appropriate to remove references to religion and orientation from the intro. Heterosexual politicians don't have "heterosexual" listed in their first sentence, after all. Personal identity information for most politician articles on wikipedia are handled in a separate "Bio", "background" or "personal life" section, independent of political career info. 69.107.140.59 (talk) 09:56, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's true, and I included it in the lead only because of the absence of another suitable section. A "Personal life" or general "Biography" section would indeed be the most appropriate place for information about sexuality and ethnicity/religion. Since you intend to write such a section, I see no reason to hurry to add that information. Thanks, -- Black Falcon (talk) 19:05, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Rebecca Kaplan co-edited a bisexual anthology in which she self-identified (among other things) as a bi-dyke (that is, as a dyke-identified bisexual). I have made a change to reflect this and included the page reference from her book which includes her bio. Margaret Robinson 7:50, 15 November 2013

No longer orphaned

[edit]

I added Kaplan as an entry to the following lists

and the article is no longer orphaned. If it is confirmed that she is bisexual (see the section #LGBT) and not a lesbian, she should also be added to List of bisexual people: G–M. -- Black Falcon (talk) 07:02, 12 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. I removed the cats on her article before reading this discussion page. She really shouldn't be in the LGBT cats without a) a statement in the article, and b) a reliable source to back up the statement. I'm cleaning up some articles now, but if I get the chance, I'll take a look. Come to think of it, though, the SF Chronicle article may be enough. -- SatyrTN (talk / contribs) 01:38, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"List of LGBT Jews" ...Seriously? Why should this be included as a tag? I know these "lists" are popular with certain types, but I'd like to know why that's even significant here. I mean, yes the LGBT issue is certainly politically significant in Oakland, but I would like to understand the relevance and significance of getting her on them. Please educate me. I added the entry to List of LGBT Jews because ... well, because she is a LGBT Jew. Without commenting on the validity or usefulness of the List of LGBT Jews (that's a discussion for AfD or the list's talk page), is there a particular reason to exclude her from the list? -- Black Falcon (talk) 19:04, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
