"house" versus "home"

Detached house is the more common term in American English, and far more common in British English (as evidenced by the phrases' frequency in Google n-gram viewer) though "home" has increased in recent decades in both languages. In the context of real estate sales, "home" may be a euphemism, designed to make an (as yet) unoccupied dwelling seem more homey, and therefore more desirable.CharlesHBennett (talk) 20:38, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Don't think merging is necessary. The cross-reference statements at the top of both clarify the distinctions: "This article is about the legal concept. For the business of selling and leasing real property, see real estate.: Laurars (talk) 13:15, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

I agree that the cross-reference statement doesn't describe the "real estate" article correctly--the page isn't just about the real estate industry. I also think it's confusing to have one page for a subject ("real estate") and then a separate page for the legal / theoretical treatment of that same subject ("real property"). Couldn't we just combine the two and create the pertinent sections? For example: "History of the term," "Legal status," "Business of buying/selling real estate", etc. Good mortician (talk) 18:09, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
