Reşid Mehmed PashaReshid Pasha – per WP:COMMONNAME & WP:USEENGLISH

It's clear that neither Reşid Mehmed Pasha nor Reşid Mehmed Pasa is common name.

Because he played an important role in the Greek War of Independence, I researched again with adding "greek independence":

  • Oppose present proposal. "Mehmed Reşid/Reshid Pasha" was apparently his full name, and "Reşid/Reshid Pasha" is simply a shorthand to refer to him. There are other people like Mustafa Reshid Pasha who is also often simply referred to as "Reshid Pasha", and indeed he is arguably the more famous of the two as he masterminded the Tanzimat reforms. The ş/sh distinction is a minor distinction between different branches of the Latin alphabet, and in Ottoman names the usual method is to keep the modern Turkish orthography for most first names, sobriquets etc. I would however not be opposed to moving the article to either Mehmed Reşid or Mehmed Reshid. Hmm. I understand. According to this research (Crimean-War Reshid-Pasha -Llc) both this Reshid Pasha and Mustafa Reshid Pasha were simply called Reshid Pasha. But I don't understand which name was pricise his name, Mehmed Reshid or Reshid Mehmed. In google books, "Mehmed Reshid Pasha" is more common. Takabeg (talk) 09:17, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

His year of death??

[edit]

His year of death is given as 1839. What historical authority gives this date of death? According to the history website for "Unknown Diyarbakir", ("Bilinmeyen Diyarbekir" Ottoman Pashas serving Diyarbakir (in Turkish) he was appointed the Governor of Diyarbakir; worked there for 2 years 8 months and died on October 1836. His grave is located at the graveyard of "Ickale Camii (Innercastle Mosque)" near the grave of "Esat Muhlis Paşa". This date is also confirmed by the article on "Reşit Mehmet Paşa" in the "Turk Ansiklopedisi (Turkish Encyclopedia) Vol.27 p.294" by an authoritative Turkish historian "Yilmaz Öztuna".
