Request for comments: Nationality of person in lead?

Should this poet's Afghan nationality be included in lead, or only his Tajik ethnicity? An editor has felt that his nationality should not be included, only his Tajik ethnicity. I've repeatedly included his nationality, as I felt the sources stressed his notability as an Afghan national symbol. We could benefit from more opinions, especially from Dari speakers. The Manual of Style recommends including nationality and not ethnicity. Any controversial or controverted material should be sourced. As Wikipedia:Citing sources says, "Biographies of living persons should be sourced with particular care, for legal and ethical reasons. Comment The entry in the Manual of Style clearly means that his nationality should be there, to wit, Afghan. What is there now is "Persian", which is meaningless in American English, and which links to a disambig page to boot. The lead goes on to say he wrote in Persian (disambig, again), which in American English means "Farsi". The MoS also says "3b. Ethnicity should generally not be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." I think we can interpret that to mean that a poet's native language and ethnicity, being part of his notability, should be mentioned. I think the opening sentence might better be this: Raziq Faani (1943–2007) was an Afghan poet and novelist from Kabul. A Tajik, he published more than ten volumes of poetry and novels in his native [insert language link here] language. --Milkbreath (talk) 20:24, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Not every book in Persian is translated in english. If you have no knowledge of Fani then why are you editing this article. in Shekast e Shab, Faani clearly states his ethnicity.--Anoshirawan 10:25, 21 January 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anoshirawan (talk • contribs)

Latin alphabet spelling

I am reversing a good faith edit by IP who changed the spelling from Faani to Fani in the article but did not change the article name. Per a Google search, both spellings are common when his name is transliterated to English but Faazi appears slightly more common. A redirect from Raziq Fani to this article already exists.
