I'm not quite sure what's prompting the requests to delete this all of a sudden. He seems notable, and I don't beleive G7 applies since some usere have made contributions, in my case I spent some time tracking down sources. Sourcing could still be improved, but other primary sources (which aren't ideal I know) including his Merchant Navy service record should become more easily accessible in the near future, see http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/business/popular_records.htm which should reduce the reliance on forums etc for details of his early life.
