Wikipedia states "People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject."
Raymond Elston is mentioned in a well-respected book on abstract art (Grieve), in a PhD thesis by a respected art historian (Fowler) and in a popular biography about a famous British designer (Terence Conran). Other than that, there is little else to find about this British artist at present - despite trying hard to gather basic biographical material. I leave it to Wikipedia to judge about his notability. My reason for including him here is because various stub articles exist in Wikipedia, awaiting further information. If more information comes to light then at least there will be a place in which to add these details. I don't feel this artist deserves to be entirely forgotten, especially since his name crops up in a few places here. Egrabczewski (talk) 12:28, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Egrabczewski Thank you, whether the sources are sufficient enough to meet WP:GNG, WP:NBIO or WP:NARTIST is a matter that will only be evaluated in the event the article is nominated for deletion. I can't speak to the level of significant coverage in each of those sources but that will be key to any such discussion, as that is often the most subjective factor. If you run into any other sources, feel free to add them in the article or on this talk page. If you happen to know the date of birth and death for this individual, we are missing both and that would help. I appreciate your contributions! ASUKITE19:13, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've been trying to get those dates for the past year. I even contacted the author of the book about Terence Conran, but he couldn't help. I'm looking for exhibition catalogues that might give some details but I've found nothing yet. Raymond Elston is not even listed in "Artists in Britain Since 1945" by David Buckman - probably because the author couldn't find any information either. I'm hoping someone out there will contribute to the article. Egrabczewski (talk) 20:48, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've found three more sources: the book by Jobse(2005), an article by Grieve(1990), and a doctoral thesis by Montfort(2012). They all mention him as an artist in mobiles but nobody seems to have biographical information, especially Grieve - who contacted him for his article but failed to get his personal details.
