I don't believe Irwin could have been considered "from" Homer at the time this happened. I'm fairly sure the initial arrest was in Fairbanks. I have removed the reference to Homer and tried to clarify that he deliberately set out to be arrested. Beeblebrox (talk) 03:49, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I checked around but I can't find any specifics of the arrest. All the papers referred to him as "Homer lawyer Irwin Ravin" despite the fact that he hadn't practiced law in about 20 years and had been working as a cab driver for the last 10-15 years of his life. I'm afraid my assertion that this happened in Fairbanks is WP:OR, as it is based on my recollection of the story as told to me by Irwin himself. As I recall, he put the weed in his pocket and drove around like a lunatic until a cop finally noticed and pulled him over. When the cop asked him to sign the ticket, he refused, leaving the cop with no choice under the law but to arrest him. When they emptied his pockets they found the weed. It's important to understand that this was at least as much about the right to privacy as it was about legalizing weed. It was also a great way for him to make his name as a young lawyer who was relatively new to the state. I'll keep looking for verification for these details. Luckily the local paper actually bothered to get the details right so we don't have to go by my slightly faulty memory, the arrest occurred in Anchorage after Irwin was pulled over for a broken tail light. Beeblebrox (talk) 04:26, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
On March 25th, this page does not mention cannabis in it's text.. only in the templates attached to the page. In 1975 (and today) this discussion was about "marijuana" which is only a portion of the "cannabis" plant. Therefore this case law is not about the entire plant, just the narcotic "marijuana" portion, right? --Potguru (talk) 00:04, 26 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
