Ravi's involvement in politics dates began in his student days. His father, the late Balgovind verma , was a Cabinet Minister in the Central government. After completing his education in the Allahabd and Lucknow , Ravi returned to kheri and began managing his father's political affairs. In 1998 he stood for elections from the Kheri constituency in Uttar Pradesh on an Samajwadi Party ticket. He won, beating his nearest rival Gendan Lal Kanaujiya by a margin of 60,000(approx) votes. He was re-elected in the 1999 and 2004 general elections. The three-time MP from Uttar Pradesh is part of the "youth brigade" of the Lok Sabha. His focus as an MP has been the problems of corruption,Child Education, women's exploitation,Floods, environment. He lost his Loksabha elections in 2004.
Recently he is appointed as the Member of Rajyasabha from Uttar Pradesh.He is well known Parliamentarian and worked actively with Nobel Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi Ji.He was the member of various communities in Parliament related to education.
