Because originally, it was thought to roughly correspond to heart rate, BPM being 10 times Borg score, ie. no exert = 60 BPM resting heart rate, 20 = 200 BPM for intense anaerobic exercise. 2A01:36D:1000:79F:DC66:4D03:D568:6DD5 (talk) 21:45, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
