- I've added the
{{copyvio}}
template to the page. Please provide a source (date and a url if possible). Nsaa (talk) 14:35, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- As best as I can tell, there is not any infringement between the article and the entry on that Gazetteer. The information is not proprietary, the writing and flow is sufficiently unique. Unless they feel our using them as a reference is a copyvio (which it isn't), I'm not quite sure what their objection is. As best as I can tell, there is no copyvio and the {{copyviocore}} should be removed. user:j (aka justen) 14:47, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- Events and names and facts are not copyrightable; only wording is, and the wording was changed, and blended, with other material from BCGNIS. There's no other way to phrase what's there, other than by convoluted grammar. My impression, also, is that the complainant wants to "own" facts and "own" history, but something as simple as "Raspberry's was originally named Malinvoye in Russian because there were large raspberry plantations" is somehow copyrightable information. The wording is copyrightable BUT THE INFORMATION IS NOT. There's a big difference. You can't copyright the phrase "My Dad drove an old Ford and beat it to death". This page was meant only to be a stub, in the hope by the way that a Doukhobor historian would see fit to add to it, and would take part in the building of articles on other Doukhobor communities in the Kootenays; how surprising to see instead that a Doukhobor historian would rather delete this community from Wikipedia rather than try and improve the article. What a twisted world.....you try and do something nice for someone, you get crapped on for it......"Raspberry" has other meanings in English, and I'm giving you one now.....Skookum1 (talk) 15:51, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- I removed the copyvio template, as there is no copyright infringement apparent here. Take care. user:j (aka justen) 17:03, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you; as you can see I don't like being accused of plagiarism....but will also be wary of writing up any articles for List of Doukhoboour settlements in British Columbia, which is an upcoming list in the works. I'll likely avoid sourcing the Doukhobor Gazette, however, and will look for other sources for any articles I may work on to do with Doukhobor history because of "copyright chill"......again, facts and events and anmes are not copyrightable, maybe the author who made this complaint may have learned something abougt that.Skookum1 (talk) 17:25, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
