I've started a discussion about the use of the Superleague Formula templates on football club articles at Template talk:Superleague Formula following some discussion at Talk:Tottenham Hotspur F.C.. Since this article features the template, your views would be welcome. Cordless Larry (talk) 21:34, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

The Famine Song
{{editsemiprotected}}
Two fans were found guilty of a breach of the peace (aggravated by religious and racial prejudice) by singing the song during a game against Kilmarnock (9.11.08). [1]
- I've added it, but changed slightly as the reference only mentions one fan. —Snigbrook 20:23, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
Records
Jim Forrest is the top goalscorer in one season with 57 goals in 1964/65. The article incorrectly states that Sam English was the top goalscorer with 44 goals. Sam was the top scorer in league goals in 1931/32. Issue with historical facts.
The name of the football club was originally proposed by Moses McNeil one of seven brothers from Gareloch who having watched Eastern Football Club, after rowing on the upper reaches of the river Clyde at Glasgow Green, decided that they would start a club of their own. He first came up with the name Rangers Association Football Club having read C W Alcocks English Football Annual and had been atracted to the name of an English Rugby Club circa 15th July 1873. The four McNeil brothers that originated the club were William,Harry,Moses and Peter. Rangers shared a ground with Eastern F C at Fleshers Haugh on Glasgow Green. Details are recorded in the book "The Story Of The Rangers" Fifty Years' Football 1873-1923 by John Allan

Nacho Novo should have the Spanish flag, not the Galician one (is like you put the flag of Miami instead of the American one...)
Most Major Trophies
I've removed the following from the lead;
"They have won a world record 51 league titles and have won more major trophies than any other football club in the world."
and replaced it with;
"They have won 51 domestic league titles, more than any other team."
Reason for this;
- The information is sourced from a fan website that originates from a newsgroup. Not saying they're wrong, but this is not a reliable source.
- The phrase "world record" suggests some kind of official recognition. There is no 'record' to be held. It's just statistics.
- The definition of a 'major trophy' is unclear and open to mixed interpretation and challenge.
- The second cite does not say they have won more than any other, it says they were first to win 100. And this is all dated 2001, so it's out of date.
The combination of these facts suggests that this information is unreliable and should not be in the lead. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 21:26, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well this is more beter reason to remove it that the toehr user who did. I agree it should be clarify what is a majro trophy, by the way its in teh gusiness world records for wining most league titles--Andrewcrawford (talk) 10:33, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Any way you could cite the Guinness Book? Doesn't have to be an online cite, issue and page number would be enough. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 10:55, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- I will try find the most recenet book and get the page number or will use my older one then uyse citebook--Andrewcrawford (talk) 12:15, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Wikipedia itself, in conjunction with Linfield's website suggest that Linfield have won more 'major trophys' than Rangers. There may be other football clubs out there that have even more still. However if you want to debate whether Northern Irish Leagues and Cups aren't considered major compared to SPL trophies then you should consider how those succesful La Liga or Serie A clubs would feel about the Scottish League Cup being called a major trophy.Barryferguson6 (talk) 11:53, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- I said what is classed as major has to be clarified, ie does a national cup count or league cup? there is similar type of cups throughtout the world. league standard or country standard of football does not count to major--Andrewcrawford (talk) 12:14, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Agreed. This is exactly why the statement doesn't belong on any club's article. Without some kind of official definition of a 'major trophy' it is impossible to count them and declare which club has the most. At best you could say a club has the most 'domestic' trophies, in which case the reader can decide themselves what they are worth. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 10:33, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- There is also the fact that times change and what may have been considered major then is no longer the case. Is the league cup considered major today? I remember when the Glasgow cup was considered major (well, in Glasgow) and the size of the crowds then would amaze those who didn't know the importance put on it. But when countries like Italy put very little importance on cup competitions, can we compare records? Jack forbes (talk) 20:30, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
