Good article nomination #1
[edit]I have nominated this article today as a self nomination. As far as I am concerned, the article meets the required criteria. Thank you for your efforts and comments in advance. doxTxob \ talk 22:35, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
History of Randolph split off
[edit]The History of Randolph, Tennessee was split off the main article Randolph, Tennessee due to recommendations in the GA review of the main article. Please understand that there will be redundancies for a few days between the articles Randolph, Tennessee and History of Randolph, Tennessee. The main article Randolph, Tennessee will be reduced in length in the history section in the next few days. My decision was to accept more redundancies due to overlapping articles in the beginning, rather than losing information for a few days while preparing it all in the sandbox. Furthermore, this gives a better opportunity for other editors to positively influence the articles at this early stage. Thank you for your understanding and for your patience.
For the start I will go ahead and comment out sections first, before they are deleted, eventually. As mentioned above, I do not want to do this in the sandbox to have the transition transparent, and to ensure that everyone interested can follow the steps, reverse them if needed and to offer the opportunity to everyone to participate in this change. Take care, doxTxob \ talk 02:29, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Update
[edit]I have reduced material from the history section considerably in this article but it is not yet completely finished and needs some detail work that I plan to apply after the redundant information is removed. If you like to contribute you are welcome. Please be careful to leave references intact. The historical information is available in the History of Randolph, Tennessee. Thank you! doxTxob \ talk 05:39, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- The history section has now been reduced to a state that does not rival the History of Randolph, Tennessee article and I would consider the reduction finished for the most part. If you have ideas to contribute recent material about Randolph to this article, feel free to add it. doxTxob \ talk 04:36, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Good article nomination #2
[edit]The first GA review of the article revealed some formal issues in the prose that are fixed now. The article was a speedy fail at point 3a and 3b of the GA criteria, the broad coverage of the topic and the focus. Solutions to remedy the shortfalls were suggested by the reviewer. The key points and the measures taken to fix them are outlined below. In my opinion the problems are eliminated. I respect the former reviewer's principle not to review the same article twice, so maybe a different reviewer might like to evaluate the article.
Underfocus on the present: To address concerns about underfocus on the present, the section "earthquakes" was extended to include more detailed information about the number, depth and magnitude of earthquakes from 1974-2004 in prose. A section "climate" was introduced, shortly describing the climate zone and presenting weather averages in a table. A new section "culture" was also added to accommodate the facts related to culture that deserve a mention. The introduction has been extended to summarize the whole article.
Overfocus on history: The overfocus on history has been addressed. The history section was transferred to a separate article History of Randolph, Tennessee to cover the topic there in more detail. In this very article, the history section has been reduced to about 25% of its former length. History related content was eliminated from the lead section to reflect the proportions of the article content and to shorten the lead.
Images: They were not checked in the review, due to the quick fail. The images that were transferred to the History of Randolph, Tennessee did pass in the GA review of that article Talk:History of Randolph, Tennessee/GA1. The images used in this article are appropriately tagged and have appropriate captions.
Let me add a few words here on the history and present of Randolph. When evaluating the article, please consider that most of the history that was written about Randolph happened before and during the Civil War. During the war, the settlement was burnt down twice and only few residents stayed. From 1865 to present day, not much has changed. In 2009, Randolph is so small that it is combined with nearby communities to form a census district. Was it not for the history of the town there would not be too much to mention at all. Thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions to improve this article, doxTxob \ talk 01:59, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
