---|---|---|
1. Well-written: | ||
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC) | |
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC) | |
2. Verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check: | ||
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC) | |
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose). | See comments below. IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
Because some of these sources aren't available I wasn't able to do as thorough of a check as I would have liked but I did do some source checks. IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:56, 21 October 2024 (UTC) | |
2c. it contains no original research. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:56, 21 October 2024 (UTC) | |
2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:56, 21 October 2024 (UTC) | |
3. Broad in its coverage: | ||
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC) | |
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style). | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC) | |
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC) | |
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC) | |
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio: | ||
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC) | |
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. | IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC) | |
7. Overall assessment. | Since this article needs significant changes to be made to the sources I'm going to put it on hold for now. IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
The article is cited, well-written, neutral, and addresses the main topics. There isn't much info available about this person so I think this article is reasonably broad enough. IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:37, 22 October 2024 (UTC) |
- Please stick to a consistent citation style for your article. This article currently uses plaintext citations and templated citations, please stick to one of the two styles. IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- Done, I think. Perception312 (talk) 14:24, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Due to the length of sources 2 "A Paramhansa Yogananda Trilogy of Divine Love. Copyright Joan Wight", 10 "Autobiography of a Yogi", and ref 16 "Rajarsi Janakananda: A Great Western Yogi.". You can use RP or SFN for this. IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think you mean to ask me to provide page numbers.
Before I attempt this, are you okay with these sources (not the autobiography) being in the article? Their authors are not independent of the subject, but secondary sources mention them. They were added before I started working on the article.Perception312 (talk) 20:14, 15 October 2024 (UTC)- yes that’s what i meant to ask oops. IntentionallyDense (talk) 16:45, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- IntentionallyDense, I have removed the second and third of those sources and provided page numbers for the first one, Durga Mata 1993, using an online version of the source. Perception312 (talk) 16:23, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sounds good I’ll take a look in the next few days (i’m currently at work). IntentionallyDense (talk) 16:46, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think you mean to ask me to provide page numbers.
- Ref 10 "Autobiography of a Yogi" is a primary source and therefore does not pass the GA standards for sourcing. IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:00, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- Okay, I have removed this source from the article. Perception312 (talk) 18:02, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
- A self-made millionaire when he met Yogananda in 1932, he was the main financial contributor to Yogananda's religious organization, Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF), and he helped ensure its long-term success. The wording here is kind of awkward, could you rephrase it? IntentionallyDense (talk) 20:49, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Since it was already stated that he was wealthy, I took out the self-made millionaire part and also moved the part about meeting Yogananda in 1932. Hope it's better now. Perception312 (talk) 21:36, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- which reveres him as a saint why? IntentionallyDense (talk) 20:49, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- According to NPR, they believe that he rapidly attained union with God via meditation. Eileen Luhr also mentions that their founder personally dubbed him a saint, but I guess NPR's explanation is more informative as to the religious reasoning behind it. Perception312 (talk) 22:36, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- In Kansas City, he took night classes to finish his high school education, at the same time that he took law and accounting classes. rephrase for clarity. IntentionallyDense (talk) 20:49, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
- Done. I don't have access to Fowler 1952, but luckily other sources mention the classes. Perception312 (talk) 00:08, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- nervous problems Is there more details as to what this means? IntentionallyDense (talk) 04:02, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sources describe his mental condition variably: nervousness, anxiety, irritability, etc. Roberts 2014 quotes Lynn saying, "My mind was disturbed. I was so nervous I couldn't sit still." And Luhr 2024 contextualizes his anxiety as part of a broader trend. Perception312 (talk) 18:34, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- but Yogananda's experience-based approach appealed to his pragmatism. is there more details here? IntentionallyDense (talk) 04:02, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Goldberg doesn't provide more detail in that part of his book, but I went to related articles and used a couple sources from those to provide context. Perception312 (talk) 14:35, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- According to NPR it is best to spell out acornyms in full when first used. IntentionallyDense (talk) 04:02, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- granting him access to a "spiritual realm" Any more details on this? IntentionallyDense (talk) 04:02, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- The source doesn't seem to elaborate on that. Perception312 (talk) 02:52, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to me on all my feedback. I've been really busy lately hence why I haven't replied to all of your comments individually. If the sources don't elaborate then I obviously don't expect you to I just wanted to double check there wasn't anything missing. IntentionallyDense (talk) 03:34, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
