Wikiproject WikiProject Fife
[edit]Description
[edit]This article would cover all Fife-related articles such as places, famous people, museums, football and rugby clubs and churches to name a few. Examples would be: Kirkcaldy, Andrew Carnegie, Adam Smith, Dunfermline Abbey, Dunfermline Athletic, The Old Course and Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery. This could also help support articles that really do need a lot of work while keeping general maintenance. Examples would be: Methil, Dunfermline, Cupar and a lot of the smaller towns such as Kennoway and Lower Largo. Please see the discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Wikiproject_WikiProject_Fife. Kilnburn (talk) 16:26, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Raith area
[edit]"...located on Pratt Street in the Raith area of Kirkcaldy, Fife"
I don't think that's fully correct as people are assuming "dancing in the street's of Raith" means it's full of streets, and hence think that quote is somehow fully correct with intent (!), when in fact Raith has no streets at all and the club isn't in Raith either.
Surely the club are based in "Linktown". Technically from hundreds of years ago (1700), that area of woodland was owned by "Raith" and that the Beveridge Park is also Raith's land.
AFAIK the only thing referred to "Raith" (actually Raith Estate) is the private owned woodland area near Oriel - some bit away from the ground. I mean you don't get a bus to Raith and turn up at Raith Rovers now do you? There is no such thing. You cannot drive there.

Nickname
[edit]Confused about this added sentence to the article:
Unlike most other clubs - Raith have no nickname - they're simply The Rovers.
How is a nickname defined? Is it not something that a club is known as? Therefore, Raith are known as "The Rovers" therefore that is their nickname...? Or is there some reason that this is not officially their nickname? Mkns 20:20, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- I don't know but that's what an article have said about Raith Rovers in the Scottish newspaper. Rovers is just the second part of the official team name.
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/news/tm_objectid=16195598&method=full&siteid=66633-name_page.html
- That does make sense, but another example of this is Blackburn Rovers F.C. who also have their nickname as 'Rovers' as specified on wikipedia... so I am of the opinion that 'The Rovers' is a valid nickname and the comment should be removed. Mkns 16:31, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
"The Rovers" is a valid nickname!End of discussion.
Dancing in the Streets of Raith
[edit]I thought it was Frank Bough who said they would be dancing in the streets of Raith tonight. PatGallacher 17:47, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
I'm not familiar with the geography of Kirkcaldy but the article states that the team play in "the Raith area of Kirkcaldy". So if Raith is a district/locale then the infamous "dancing in the streets" comment surely isn't as stupid as people make out......? ChrisTheDude 13:32, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
- "Raith" consists mostly of a Country Estate. There is some argument in which area Starks Park truly lies, although personally I'd vote for "Linktown".--LM82 03:33, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
Why isn't Colin 'Mickey' Cameron mentioned in previous players list? --195.92.40.49 14:30, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
i live in the town and it lies in Linktown. Links Street is practically opposite the ground, in case you don't know. Kilnburn (talk) 12:32, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
Spirit Fans
[edit]I removed this today " Kirkcaldy's two most famous sons, Robert Adams and Adam Smith, are presumed fans of Raith Rovers. Folklore tells that their spirits still protect the club in dire times, even though both died in the 18th century, well before the club was established in 1883."--LM82 16:00, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Merging of key dates and history section
[edit]I would agree with User:Fedgin's proposal. The key dates reads like a bullet-pointed history at the moment and there is a degree of duplication on the Claude Anelka period. Caledonian Place 19:07, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
I also agree it seams odd having to pages for what is essentially the same topic Duffin1989 14:14, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
Supporters
[edit]Jackie Leven was at the recent Rovers Down South Coca-Cola cup anniversary do and fundraiser in Soho, providing the music. Don't have a reliable source to back this up though, so haven't added him in the Supporters section as yet. Mutt Lunker (talk) 14:22, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Urquharts
[edit]Are the two Urquharts listed among their greatest players related?--MartinUK (talk) 20:08, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Away strip 2014/15
[edit]The new away strip is this if anyone wants to edit the away colours bit on the page, bit too complicated for myself! (92.236.30.36 (talk) 20:39, 2 June 2014 (UTC))
Also I've changed the home socks/shorts to reflect the new season kit which the top is exactly the same except the sponsor but I notice now that the blue strips in the middle have been missing from the articles, can't find how to add that design in. (92.236.30.36 (talk) 11:24, 8 June 2014 (UTC))
Managed to get the away strip fine now but can't figure out the home one for the bars across the middle (92.236.30.36 (talk) 13:30, 8 June 2014 (UTC))
Squad numbers & Joe Cardle
[edit]Couple of things that seem to have been added by others (I didn't want to get rid of them until it was clear whether there are sources or not), many of the new signings have been allocated squad numbers on this page but I can see no reference to these numbers elsewhere i.e. what is the source for this info & Joe Cardle has been added to the list, again there's no reference to the signing of him anywhere as far as I can see (the player's main page also says he plays for Raith Rovers but has no reference to back this up). (Liam_Barnett (talk) 17:44, 11 June 2015 (UTC))
Logo
[edit]The actual logo currently used by the club hasn't been the one on here for some time & it is actually this one - http://www.raithrovers.net/files/2016/01/rrfc_shield_nov_13_oldtext4.jpg where there is a difference regarding the border on it & it also looks to be a different shade of red? & has dots between the lettering. (Liam_Barnett (talk) 14:39, 16 March 2016 (UTC))
Update - the logo being used now is this one - http://www.raithrovers.net/files/2017/07/rrfc_shield_july2017_small.jpg (presumably due to heraldic laws). (Liam_Barnett (talk) 14:05, 24 July 2017 (UTC))
Ray McKinnon
[edit]Should Dundee United: Ray McKinnon top of wanted list be mentioned? Also see move proposal at Talk:Ray McKinnon (actor) which affects the other article and disambiguation page. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:06, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

Mealy-mouthed obfuscation
[edit]There is no place for mealy-mouthed obfuscation. David Goodwillie is a rapist, so let's refer to him so. Someone who "who was ruled to have raped a woman" is: a rapist. Let's not beat about the bush. And why would one? It doesn't matter what flavour of court made the finding, that was the judgement. Mutt Lunker (talk) 12:40, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- David Goodwillie is more known as a footballer than for his criminal convictions/civil judgement. Referring to him as a "rapist" is WP:UNDUE. Dougal18 (talk) 13:09, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- So the women's team split away because of his abilities as a footballer, did they? We don't know now because of your blanking. His mention in the women's team section is entirely down to him being a rapist, so whatever else he's known for, that's not why he is mentioned in this context. It's not just not UNDUE, it's essential if the material is to make sense.
- Even were that not the case, er, have you seen the press lately? I don't remember him making headlines in the Telegraph, CNN, Tagesschau and Der Spiegel for his goal-scoring ability at Clyde.
- Why you're expunging this most pertinent of facts I dread to contemplate but your implication that a civil judgement is valueless or that someone "who was ruled to have raped a woman" is not the same as a plain and simple "rapist" is concerning. Mutt Lunker (talk) 13:52, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- I added in "who was ruled to have raped a woman" to clarify things and to stop referring to Goodwillie by "rapist". Wiki didn't refer to "Thug David Goodwillie" after the assault convictions so I don't see why "Rapist David Goodwillie" should be in the article. Dougal18 (talk) 14:49, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah, that sounds like the fairest way to do it. "Adjective David Goodwillie" is very tabloid which is something Wikipedia is most definitely not. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 15:02, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- That you started by simply removing altogether any mention of the reason for the split by the women's club is telling. What's more, with an apologist trope as an edit summary: you dismissed the notion that he really is a rapist. That throws a light on your subsequent edits and your subsequent "clarification" can thus be seen as a further attempt to water things down. "Was ruled to have" serves to cast doubt.
- Would you object to the phrase "striker Goodwillie" or is that banned and we have to go round the houses with something like "Goodwillie, who plays as a striker". "Goodwillie, who is said to play as striker"? Or are adjectives only banned for bad things, things to be hidden?
- "Rape" is the name of an offence, "thug", "thuggery" or whatever is not. Someone who has raped is a rapist and that is what the broadsheets are calling him too. Why are you so keen to "stop referring to" him as what he is? WP:SPADE. Mutt Lunker (talk) 16:45, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

- Tbf, "after an outcry" is very vague. It could be an outcry about almost anything. Readers will want to know why the outcry happened and the consequences of it. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 13:39, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
- Indeed. Mutt Lunker (talk) 13:52, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
